Anyone else totally puzzled about Barcelona not even being on the market for this guy? Are they forgetting their Ajax roots now that Johan is no longer around or what??? They so desperately needed a CB, and this guy would have been an excellent fit for them... we must thank our lucky stars I feel.

They've got Paulinho to provide an impenetrable defensive shield from midfield for them, they'll be fine.

They were looking at him but allegedly he preferred to work with Pochettno.

Completely agree, there is no chance this lad would come to us if he thought he couldn't break into the team very quickly. I think he will be in the starting 11 extremely soon and turn out to be a great signing. He also brings an attacking threat at corners which we do struggle with somehow considering the players we have. The guy leaps like a salmon!

IMO he has been brought infor just this reason, and also I think he defends on the front foot and is a lot more aggressive than Toby and Jan.
