Good defender not sure on his ability with the ball and with the way we play I think that is important.

He’s actually improved with the ball and like what @Luka Van der Bale said he’s actually more comfortable and better with the ball when he plays as a LCB like he did tonight

I think Sanchez is a quality defender. Has some errors in him, for sure, but these can and I believe will be ironed it. Has the potential to be our leading CB for years to come.

Such a shame we didn't get De Ligt at the same time, an opportunity missed.

If I was Levy (I'm short and bald but don't have the £££) then I would look at who is scouting for Ajax and Atletico because they both have a great history of finding superstars before they become them

Interestingly saw he was quickest CB in PL last season.
don't be surprised he is damn quick. We should go full time with him next season IMO he should be first choice. It's time to build around Sanchez Ndombélé Dele Alli Winks Kane

I actually agree with you. Although benching Toby seems crazy it's pretty clear he is going on a free next summer so we need to start preparing for life without him. Let's get Sanchez up to speed

Sanchez has a higher ceiling than Toby and, it pains me to say it, Jan. IMO

Edit - to the optimistics and disagree - we'll see. He was far more highly-rated when we signed him than either of the other two ever have been. I mean no offence when I say this, but some of you should follow a different sport because your lack of understanding is embarrassing and you bring shame on your families.

Just because he's faster? They are both infinitely better on the ball, where I don't think Sanchez will touch either of them in this regard.

Yeah, that's what I said. How you came to that inference is anybody's guess. There's really no point in me engaging in discussion with somebody who has decided to spout such utter dog-shit in the first four words of their post - demonstrating your agenda straight off the bat.

Anyway - He's stronger, faster, better in the air. He's still only 23 and some of you lot are judging him as if he's an old-head like Jan and Toby are. He's only going to get better and that's in positioning, judgement, tackling technique and everything. There's a reason Barca were after him. As I say in my tongue-in-cheek edit - when we signed him he was higher rated than Jan or Toby have ever been (as a prospect).

He's going to make a lot of 'yer da's look dumb when he becomes one of the best in the world - which he will.

I would love for you to be right but what I'll say is Alder and Jan not only have better ball playing ability but defensively their positioning is excellent, they rarely dive in and get caught out, they stand up to people dribbling at them excellently and rarely get sucked in, right now Sanchez does and those aspects make me question the height of his ceiling, as you say he is young but over the last year I'd have liked to have seen him improve that so there's maybe 2% concern there but I do believe he needs a consistent run of games if he is going to grow into his potential.

Another problem I have is that everytime I see him play for Colombia on the left he is fantastic and Poch seldom allows him to play there, even when Vert was injured he played Sanchez right and Alder left which didn't work in my opinion. Need Poch to see that or maybe Sanchez will get more comfortable right side.

Firstly, not every top quality in their prime was highly rated as a youth.

For two seasons for us many considered TA as the best centre back in the league.

Vertonghen has been a very bit as good the last two seasons.

So rating a post saying Davinson will be better than them as optimistic is correct.

I rate Davinson highly but happy to wait and see if he can become as good as the best in the league.

The CB side thing with him and Toby is due to Trippier. Toby and Trippier don't necessarily get on that well. Trips also needs a very pacy player to cover for him if he's caught too far forward.

I know this isn’t his thread but since he’s been mentioned, I hope we give Jan a new contract for maybe 2 or 3 years.

I remember when TA was at Ajax we had ITK that we were concerned about the way he shielded the ball, Must have been in a scouting report? Then he went to AM and under Simeone learned how to become a much better defender but wasnt really in the starting lineup. He must have been what 23 when he went to AM without checking. DS has every chance to keep improving.

Pretty much where I stand too. I like the look of Sanchez, he's still very raw but has a lot of potential and if the stars align I think he does potentially have what it takes to be a top player for us. But I don't really understand how anyone can confidently say he'll be better than peak Jan/Toby based on what we've seen so far. If he'd looked as good as them in all the games he played then I could understand it, but while showing promise he's hardly been at their level consistently enough to make a call like that IMO

Because I watched him for Ajax for a year too. He joined us as a 21 year old, Jan was 25 and Toby 26 - anybody expecting the same level of performance or consistency at his age is being a big silly goose. Doesn't change the fact that, in the footballing world - he was higher rated as a prospect than either of them.
