Big Sam obviously don't rate him that highly as he is on the bench in a crap side.

I've still not seen enough of him to make up my mind.
He does look good going forward but the one stand-out thing for me was him not using his pace to get back into position after and attack broke down, leading to Sunderland shipping a goal.
He just ambled back in the way that certain flair players do but if he'd made an effort and with his pace, he could well have prevented the goal.
He got subbed shortly after.

It's too little to make a firm judgement on him but it's not what I'm after in a player.

Worth everyone remembering its as much to do with how highly rated KWP is as anything else.

That's the thing that stood out in your post. I love hearing that Poch rates our youngsters.

I'm not sure it was a poor move, more of a gamble. If he could ally technique and discipline to his obvious pace then we might have been onto a winner, not to mention the US angle and how good that would be. If it doesn't work out we sell him on for a small loss. Not every gamble will succeed but I expect to see us pick up more like this over the next few years.

My post is based on my knowledge of MLS and the USMNT, rather than my Spurs fandom when it comes to Yedlin. I think he's going to be an excellent player but he was extremely raw and should have taken another year or two in the US.

He HAD to leave because of how high his stock was after the World Cup, but he still wasn't ready.

Not looking good:

SUNDERLAND KEEN ON DEBUCHY

Sunderland are keeping tabs on Arsenal full-back Mathieu Debuchyas manager Sam Allardyce looks to bolster his resources at both ends of the pitch, Press Association Sport understands.

The 30-year-old former Newcastle defender has expressed a desire to leave the Emirates Stadium this month in order to keep alive his hopes of making France’s Euro 2016 squad, with Aston Villaregistering their interest.

PA Sport report Debuchy is one of a series of options for Allardyce, who wants a defender and attacking player to add to the captures of centre-half Jan Kirchhoff, frontman Dame N'Doye and third-choice keeper Steve Harper this month.

Debuchy left St James' Park for Arsenal in a £12million move in July 2014, but has made only seven appearances to date this season after missing much of the last campaign through injury.

Not surprised with how his spell at Spurs is going (i.e. that he's on loan at Sunderland, not getting a game there, and with no ITK chat that the THFC coaching staff see any long-term future for him as a Spurs player).

Standard "I hope he proves me wrong and goes on to be a great player for Spurs" caveat attached, because when the hell don't we want the people on our books to go on and become great players. But I'm not at all surprised with Yedlin's progress so far, and it will take him [hopefully] proving me wrong and becoming a great player to convince me that the reasons for signing him weren't at least 90% focused on his marketability in the US.

I think between Walker, Trippier and KWP, we're unlikely to even see him play for us again (outside maybe pre-season tours). Would be pleased to see him make it in the PL though.

Other than for US marketing reasons, I have no idea why we signed him. When I watched him in some MLS games and with the US team he didn't look any better than Walker. In fact, markedly worse. Never do get why we buy players who clearly don't look like they can improve dramatically enough to make a difference to our 1st team. At best he was a squad player. Now we have a player we cant flog to anyone else and who's value will no doubt go down just like his confidence.
Shame.

He wouldn't have cost us much. Perhaps needs more time but if he's sold or allowed to run down his contract (unlikely, knowing Levy) I don't think it's too big a deal.

Perhaps a Championship loan next season ?

What exactly do people think we gained in terms of "US marketability" by signing Yedlin? People who watch a lot of national team soccer or MLS and care about the Premier League already have a team that they follow. People who don't most likely couldn't pick Yedlin out of a lineup or even tell you what sport he plays. I have never seen a Yedlin Spurs kit in either LA (huge soccer market) or Seattle (where Yedlin used to play). If he doesn't become a significant player for Spurs, he will have had little to no effect on Spurs marketability in the US, and far far less than Dempsey did. Far more likely that he was simply cheap and highly recommended by Klinsmann and we took a punt. Too bad if it doesn't pan out but many of those kind of gambles won't.

Post as a whole is spot on. I can say I'd never seen a Yedlin Spurs shirt in Chicago or Austin TX (both with solid Spurs/USMNT fan bases). He had a nice World Cup, had taken big strides every year as a player, Jurgen likely put a word in with Spurs and they gave a punt for a cheap purchase price. Worst case scenario for Spurs is he doesn't pan out and he gets sold back to MLS for what he was bought for, as MLS will always pay to (re)acquire USMNT players.
