I agree he is happy here because things have been great for him and us this season. However if RM make a serious offer of say 100 mil then I'm sure he would want to go and Levy would take the money. It's the problem we will have with all our players if we can't pay the big salaries and don't win any trophies. Next season has to be our season or it it could all fall apart.

You're mad if you think paying him more will deter him from wanting to join Real Madrid.

I fully expect Dele to go, maybe as soon as the season we move in to the new stadium, or at least I hope we have that long of him playing here. It's the main reason I want Barkley even I don't like him that much. Mostly because he's still young and hoping Poch can do his work on him, and the fact that he'd be likely a very good value buy anyway, good gamble -- he can very well be the eventual replacement for Dele, if everything goes right.
I would be happy to see Barclay here but he's not got the talent of Ali who's a one off and even though he's not the finished article yet is irreplacable in my opinion.

I agree, money clearly plays a part with any player but the motivation behind a move like that is world recognition, a career with a club with a history of trophies (even though not many recently but still, a champions league trophy nonetheless.)

We have a long way to go before the football media, the supporters or the players see us on the same level as Real Madrid as a club, that's not to say it will never happen but this team will be long gone before we have the pulling power of a team like that.

Even if Madrid failed to win a trophy for the next 10 years straight their name alone would have more pull than ours (unless of course we suddenly turn into a side that wins multiple PL titles and a Champions league when we get our new stadium.)

I am just trying to be as realistic as possible when I say that, I dislike Real Madrid as a club but to think a player would pick us over them is pure delusion at best, I think even Kane would be tempted quite frankly and he loves spurs, he might be the only one that would stay at spurs but even then I think that would be dependant on if we were winning things.

I am not going to begrudge players who move, as long as they do so respectfully and do so with the knowledge that we will have some benefit from it and be able to try and replace their worth to the side, I don't think any team in this league could stop a player moving to Madrid.

No. I'm indifference on Barkley, but it makes sense to me that we are constantly looking to replace if not upgrade possible departures. They both play similar position, althought their abilities maybe miles away now; if we do go for him, it's not that far off to suggest he might be seen as a potential candidate to replace Dele, when/if he goes.

All we can do is hope we can hold on to such a player for another 2 years and a trophy comes our way along with the new stadium. That may be enough to hold onto our very top players for longer and build a dynasty that other top players will want to be part of.

We all get pissed off when a top player leaves us. Berba didn't exactly do it with class but we remember his genius when he returned to The Lane enough to give him massive applause last Sunday.

It's best to celebrate that they were with us in the first place to entertain.

Spurs fans have been very lucky in that regard.

Why pay £30/40/50m for a player we know isn't very good, certainly isn't good enough for the standard we aspire to, Is already past the age of realistically making significant improvement, and will sit on the bench until such time as Dele actually does leave (which could be five years from now)?

Surely we'd be better off both waiting until we actually need to deal with Alli leaving as an issue, and when we do look at that point for either the next promising young potential or probably better - look abroad?

I think this is right, we essentially to have two years to win something proper either the league or CL. If we don't players will question their future with us. If we start winning things, we can begin to establish ourselves a a top tier club. If we do not we will just be a club that had a few decent seasons, then sold their players whenever it looked like they might achieve something.

lol really? more than Kane and Lloris? I very much doubt it.

He might get parity with them but never more.

If we want to keep in touch with the top clubs we'll need to start paying salaries that vaguely reflect those at the others. Hell, even Jamie Vardy is on 120k.

We are keeping in touch with the top clubs. The thing is, you make your top level 120k and then everyone else in the squad wants a pay rise. Then if we have another good season next year and we put it up again? it's unsustainable until we build the new stadium.

At the end of the day, when the top clubs pay 250k-300k to their best players, offering 100k or 120k will make no difference in the grand scheme of things, a players head will be turned regardless.

This theory has be spoken about for years, but when we had Adebayor in the squad, it didn't create such kind of a massive wage demand.
