Player Watch: Dele Alli

Sounds like he has a similar skillset to what Paulinho was supposed to be - midfielder who can get stuck in but bursts forward and provides lots of goals as well, a bit Lampard or Gerrard-esque. Can't wait to see him in preseason, I think its very possible Poch will keep him around the first team next year as he is playing better than Ryan Mason did in League One last season (and younger too).

In fairness i can see him being as good if not better than Barkely. He has natural ability, pace and is a team player.

He's a pretty physically dominant player (tall, strong, fast - still growing of course so probably not Yaya level yet, but that sort of mold)...he likes to be a playmaker and score goals - in other words, he is good going forwards, but he tackles well and always drops deep to get the ball. So a box to box player that is a real danger in the attack and links up play as well.

He doesn't seem to be interested in expanding his game. Collectively, I've watched him for over 600 minutes and I haven't seen him carry the ball more than 5 yards. With him, it's always the quick pass, which isn't a bad thing in and of itself. But when pressured lightly, he'll never quickly carry the ball east or west to buy time in order to find something positive and avoid passing backwards. If the game were simply about keeping possession, he should be among the first few names on the team sheet because that he does very well.

Hearing today we beat Arsenal, Liverpool, Newcastle and Villa to sign him this month. A few more clubs would have been in for him come the summer but had other fish to fry this January. We have a very different set up now, we are better with youngsters coming through. Been told he was very impressed with the training ground and will be in Pochs plans for next year which was one of the reasons he chose us.

The bolded in particular is most intriguing. It seems most, including myself, suspected he'd probably go right back out on loan next season but this would contradict that. Look forward to seeing more from this boy, and seeing what he has to offer our midfield which IMO is still struggling for a bit of consistency despite our great numbers.

Every source I've seen says he's 6'2", but I have to agree from the videos I've seen of him I think that seems generous. Not particularly concerned myself with height in the middle though, as we need more athleticism rather than size and from the highlights he does seem quite dynamic and agile despite his height.

Height in midfield is an attribute. Winning balls in the air in midfield is valuable.

The official MK Dons website says he is 6'2", so I think he probably is.

You can't compare alli to onomah at this point in time, onomah is completely untested at any 1st team level where as alli has stood out at mk
