Our biggest problem with Ali is going to be hanging onto him, he is going to be offered huge money.

He's just signed a 6 year deal. By my reckoning that gives the club at least 4 years of having the power to turn down any bid. Only if it gets the point where Alli refuses to sign a new contract with 2 years remaining or we get another crazy world record offer(and he wants to go) do I see him leaving.

Thought it was one of Alli's quieter games last night. Sky were lauding him up for his goals and had to resort to highlights of him passing the ball backwards for the other things he did. I thought he was better against Watford he actually contributed to the play a lot that day, last night despite working hard him and Kane were pretty quiet.

Not saying I don't rate him highly, being there to score time and time again is a real skill in itself.

Agree with this. As clinical as he was the rest of his play was quite ordinary - he is an extraordinary talent but I feel there is potential for so much more.

We're lucky to have him. One thing that pleases me the most about his rise and growth in our team is that other young, talented players will see what he's achieved and look at us as real chance to fulfill their potential.

Why are we lucky to have him?

We took a chance on him (£5m for a League One player) and gave him the platform to improve.

If anything, he should be grateful that Liverpool messed up their approach for him because Pochettino's way of playing is a better fit for him than Rodgers or Klopp.

I don't doubt that both Liverpool coaches would have improved him as a player but their systems ultimately don't benefit him.

I think a lot of our players will hang around now to see the new stadium.
Gives us at least 2 more seasons without worrying about them being poached.

Mauricio Pochettino: This is my favourite part of Tottenham star Dele Alli's game
MAURICIO POCHETTINO wants Dele Alli to carry on being naughty on the pitch – because he loves the nasty streak of the player he calls his “killer”.

Alli only joined Spurs from MK Dons for £5m just 23 months ago. But alongside Harry Kane, he has quickly become a key asset to the club.

And Mauricio Pochettino, himself a no-nonsense, uncompromising central defender in his playing days, does not want Alli to lose the occasional nasty streak in his game, because he believes the 20 year-old might just lose the aggression that makes him such a dangerous player.

The two goals that beat league leaders Chelsea were part of a run of seven goals in Alli’s last five games. In fact, the 20 goals Alli has scored since the start of the 2015-16 season are more than any other Premier League midfielder – and more than any other player under 23 in Europe’s top five leagues.

Tottenham face bogey team West Brom at White Hart Lane tomorrow – they have not beaten the Midlanders at home since 2012 – and this fixture last year showed the other side of Alli’s game.

As Spurs drew, he was later banned by the FA for punching Claudio Yacob off the ball. He was booked 11 times during the season.

This year there have been only three yellow cards, but Pochettino said: “I like a player who is that way. It is important. These people are clever. To be competitive it is important that people respect you and it is important not to be too naughty – but a little bit.

“Dele keeps that principle in his game. He is more mature, he learns and improves, but he is still a little bit...” And Pochettino grins.

“Dele is still young but he has improved a lot and has learned. That incident [the punch] was one season ago. He is a very clever and smart guy. Now he knows what happened and he is more mature. You try to advise and translate your experience to players and make them better. On the football side he is intelligent.”

Playing in a more advanced position, almost alongside Kane, has also seen the goals flow and Pochettino said: “When we use different formations, sometimes Dele gets into the box more than Harry or any other player.

“Dele for me is a killer because he’s very aggressive when he runs forward. He’s desperate to go into the box and to get the ball and score. That is an unbelievable mentality and that is because he’s a very special player.

“He can play like an offensive player and like a midfielder, because of his characteristics. He can run box to box, he can run 12.5 or 13km and all those characteristics make him very special.

“Dele is not like Harry Kane, he cannot be our top scorer like him, but for his type of player, he has goals. He’s desperate to score, he’s very aggressive getting into the box. He deserves all the praise he’s receiving.”

Inevitably there has been interest around the young England star, with Real Madrid and Barcelona rumoured to be set to test Tottenham’s resolve in the summer with bids of about £70million, but Pochettino was firm. “We are not worried about losing our best players,” he said.

“We are working very hard with Daniel Levy, our chairman, who is doing a fantastic job to keep our best players. The chairman deserves full credit for that.

“He is building a fantastic new stadium for the future of Tottenham. It will be our decision on players. It is not about money, as Tottenham are one of the healthy clubs financially. It is a good feeling, it is a fantastic ownership that we have created and that is important for our future.”

What struck me about his play yesterday was how much more decisive he looked when in possession. His touch was better, he took less touches and his passing was progressive. As someone who has complained a lot about his all-round game, I was in raptures with his performance.
