Yeah, I don't think anyone in football could quite riddle that one. In mitigation to that spanner in my theory, I can only offer that they paid a fraction of what Alli would cost them, for which I think they would expect closer to "finished" article ?

AVB could;)

In many ways he’s the opposite of a false 9. A false 9 lines up as a striker on the teamsheet but drops deep to get involved in build up and create. Dele is almost a false 10 - his position suggests he should be involved creatively in our buildup, but his contribution is more what you’d expect from a striker. Tactically something I’ve only really seen from possibly Muller elsewhere.

Yeah, that's actually spot on and a much better way of describing what I have called elsewhere today (in the Onomah thread) a dual 10/auxiliary striker.

You're description is much more accurate, he is pretty much playing as a false 10.

Just to add, what I was trying to say above was that I could see him being bought to play as a proper false 9 in the future.

Whilst I totally agree about him lacking in his overall game if he played for Barca most of the work would get done for him from the likes of Messi and Iniesta etc, he'd just be getting himself on the end of things like he usually does most of the time.

I mean if you took the goals and assists away, and just watched Alli play football, it wouldn't be impressive. Lots of good runs into the box maybe, but lots of very careless play with the ball, lots of falling over and shrugging like it's the ref's fault, and half hearted pressing. He does sometimes get a flee up his arse and work a bit harder, and he has been involved in some good things too (but that's pretty much a given at this level for any player in our side)..
I agree with some of the stuff you post and disagree with others, but you have seriously jumped the shark with this.

I dunno if you, or anyone else who criticises him for similar things, actually realise, but goals and assists are a reasonably big part of playing football. It's not all pass completion, heat maps and touches. So, naturally, watching him play football would also be watching him do the most important things in football, right?

I mean, really, what have the Romans ever done for us?

Of course I get this, which is why, in the same post, I also said:

We can all see that Alli has some special attributes, and we all understand that for 21 his potential is massive. Most weeks last season we all said "he does some really poor stuff in games but he keeps delivering and that justifies his selection - and he is 21"

But then went on to say, if he isn't producing then it becomes more an issue, as per the grumbles this season.

And also the goals/assists combined with lots of careless stuff could still be an issue for an uber club like Barca or RM, who if they are going to pay 150m would possibly (not definitely) expect a player with slightly less flaws to his game. Which, as I also said, could happen a little bit further down the line.

Most weeks last season we all said "he does some really poor stuff in games but he keeps delivering and that justifies his selection - and he is 21" but this season it's been a case of not producing very much and the same poor stuff, and by poor stuff I mean he does some really, really poor stuff that if say Clint Dempsey did or Josh Onomah did everyone would be "this bloke just isn't good enough or this bloke isn't ready for this level yet".

This. Absolutely spot on.

I have to admit that of all our star players if a silly bid came in for Alli I would accept the loss and hope we spend the money wisely. I just think there are players out there who could 'plug the gap' he would leave and we'd still have a bit left in the petty cash box as a bonus. He is certainly not in the Kane/Erikssen indispensability category. Only my thoughts, but if he left then I think life would go on and the impact would not be that catastrophic.

Yes. Say he goes for north of 100 million pounds, we can really get those Sancho and Sessegnon kids in. Recall Onomah at the end of the season and we'll have enough left for a young, hungry striker as well.to get

I can't believe someone agrees with this. The sole reason Alli would go for silly money is because he is hard to replace. His goals/assist contribution would be almost impossible for us to replace.

No so worried about his mistermeaners I think he will grow out of them like Rooney did but I AM concerned that in the last 3-6 months he just doesn’t look like he’s enjoying is football, is that a general thing or is he not happy at spurs and chasing the big money etc? I fear he is getting badly advised and has bad influences behind the scenes, he now has a model girlfriend and it seems an entourage, hope he gets his head down and picks up form again as he was immense last year.

Dortmund was indeed less than catastrophic...

Spurs and England best hope for some flair and excitement.
His anticipation and awareness are indispensible to both.
Will be a great very soon and we must keep him
though in fact I don't think we will.
Irreplaceable as the Joker in the pack
and can be relied upon to do the unexpected.
Off form so far but still the one player
I like to see in the team.
Makes the sun shine on dull days.

Eriksen is the wind that drives the sails
Kane the grindstone
and Dele the one who tilts at windmills.

I don't think it would go down well with the player but I wouldn't be adverse to pushing him back into central midfield on occasions when Lamela comes back. Especially in games where we are chasing a goal.

Playing Lamela and Eriksen behind Kane with Alli and one of Dembele/Wanyama/Dier in central midfield would be good. It would be like getting 3 attacking midfielders on the pitch whilst letting us remain with 3 at the back. Plus Alli has the athleticism to play the position (think back to the 4 1 beating of Man City two years ago).

I have been quite disappointed with Dele this season both for Spurs and for England. Last season he gave the impression he would progress to the level of Kane and Erikssen, The fact that, if anything, he is not playing as well as last season is worrying as he was to be a king pin in our striving to become a genuine top European club. Like you, I am beginning to lose faith and unless there is significant improvement in his game by the January window, I would not be averse to selling him.

COYS :)
