Mauricio Pochettino has told us before that 30-year-old (31 next July) Mousa Dembélé will never be 100% fit again and he was taken off in most games last season to make way for 21-year-old (22 next February) understudy Harry Winks. He has again repeated the difficulty he has with the Belgians fitness again to the Guardian.

Sounds like we need a midfield replacement pretty soon

I'd like to see Winks given more chances in our proper first eleven rather than Sissoko (not joining in any Sissoko bashing i just like Winks).

I thought there wasn't much to this 'news' either and he seemed to be going in hard against chelsea.
This was not someone nursing an injury.

Getting information out of MP is like getting blood from a stone, but there seems to be something going on:
This was from David Hytner (journalist/arsenal fan but with links to the club) today - I've not seen the quote before, (maybe an Nicosia presser), but I think it fair to conclude that at the very least, Dembele's long standing injury problems will still need managing.

Don't think we should be too tied in to Barkley as it pertains to CM. Come January we should look at CM options with fresh eyes, and not feel like we must sign Barkley as a CM option.

No need for a 'replacement' when you have two of the most talented youngsters in the country available to you in Winks and Onomah. Besides I don't think there is anything to worry about with Dembele - he's always had fitness issues that needed to be managed. It just means he can't play more than 2 games a week which isn't the end of the world when we're rotated the squad anyway.

Explains the rumours of Andre Gomes! Worrying for us and a real shame for Dembele, what we have to do in January is go out and try to get a top CM (easier said than done I know), or we just bite the bullet and trust in Onomah, Winks and TOB!

If that's all true, then we really should have prioritised buying a replacement this summer, because he is so critical to our play. And please, noone give me "but who? He's unique in world football".

Off topic, but it still pains me that the bin dippers got Naby Keita. Literally he would of been the most perfect Dembele replacement, and a midfield two of Keita/ Wanyama would be frightening.

Winks and Onomah to replace Dembele would that be good enough for Man City Man Utd or Chelsea I will give you the answer ....It`s NOOOO not saying they won`t have a part to play but please let not let sentiment take over...

I don't watch much La Liga but did catch there game during the week and thought exactly the same thing, while Gomes didn't have the strength and drive of Mousa he looked a very tidy passer who could move the ball on very quickly, that was just the one game though.

Dembele and Eriksen backups were my top priorities, along with replacing Walker, going into this summer and the lack of filling those positions really bothered me when the window closed but I've since gotten over it. So far into this season I've seen a much more tactically aware Poch who is finding new ways of using most of the same personnel in ways to benefit the squad. Swansea and Barnsley, and to a large extent Chelsea, all stand out to me as unlucky and bad decision making from players which can be worked on rather than team deficiencies despite our injury problems. Come January I expect us to do what we always do - see which players from our shopping list are available and what value they're available for and bid if we think it's a good deal or a deal we want to complete.

what a horrible mindset, fuck what Chelsea and City do, they're scumbags. Poch will do what is best for spurs. Anyways say that we buy Barkley in Jan, I still feel that Winks and Josh have more quality than him as a CM and will outperform most challengers for Dembele's heir.

Our rivals also didn't want Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Dembele and frankly most of our team.

Our rivals were not prepared to give Alli a chance. Our rivals would not have given Kane the number 9 spot and developed him.

We are doing well because we don't mimic our wealthier rivals.

If Dembele is on his way out and cannot play twice a week then this is a great chance to give Winks the opportunity to make the spot his own.

Where would Kane be now if we had that mindset when he started out...

He'd be killing it somewhere else. He's not the best striker in the Premier League becuase of Poch or Sherwood. He is the best striker in the Premier Leage because he has worked at it every single day for hours on end.

The point being if we want the finished article we've pretty much got it now with Kane.

Would we be able to afford Kane now though? Nope, not in transfer fee or wages.

We gave him his head and he has gone from strength to strength, whose to say the same won't happen for Winks, Onomah or Edwards/TOB.
