I already answered that question: I said that since Dier, when given the chance, had played so well Poch decided he deserved to keep playing. Which makes total sense.
Yeah I know, but it's interesting that Poch didn't pick up on the speed issue when he did play. Even after Liverpool, he kept him for 2 more games.

Dier became first choice RB for a time there because Naughton got a straight red at west ham and he played well when he came on and was named MOM. Naughton came into the season as first choice RB, may have lost it for a few gamss there but won it back and was good leading up to the injury. Dier has done very well at RB so far but lets not forget, he is a CB forced into playing RB. He doesnt have the pace we need at the full back positions.

I actually think Dier has been deceptively quick and Naughton nowhere near as quick as you'd think. I don't think there's as much between them as indicated. Walker is rapid though.

Dier is a centre back who played at right back out of necessity when Naughton was red carded.

Dier played well, so kept his place as football teams are run (or at least should be run) as meritocracies.

Dier stopped playing well, so Naughton came back in. Naughton then played well and kept his place.

Naughton is now injured, so Dier will get his chance in that position again. He may even keep the spot if he impresses until better options become available.

Dier is a very promising young centre back with pace, ability on the ball, versatility and intelligence. He currently has a queue ahead of him to be first choice centre back (though I have a hunch that when he does get his chance he will take it and become first choice), so in the meantime, any circumstances that allow him to get playing time and improve his game, be that in midfielder or at full back, will only result in him being even more first team ready when his centre back chance does arrive.

The last two versatile English centre backs we had who played in other positions for extended stints before cementing themselves as first choice centre backs were Ledley King and Judas. They also happen to be the best two centre backs Spurs, and England, have produced in the past two decades.

Dier is an exceptional talent. He is also from slow, particularly when allowed space to run into and seems to win everything in the air. He is obviously not naturally a RB but has generally played well there, particularly considering his age. He is a bit error prone right now though, probably the reason he doesn't start as a CB.His position is not yet set and suspect he will play a variety of positions before settling on one. I have heard many people believe he will den up as a defensive midfielder, would be interesting to see how he does there. i can't believe he is just 20. I also cant believe we managed to get a player who seems such an extraordinary talent. He already looks much better than the overhyped and comparable Phil Jones.

I read that as if I was giving a report to my teacher :)

How many more people are going to come in here and retort what's already been said about 20 times

I still don't understand why we played him at CB against West Ham to start with given he's a right back. Always going to get exposed for his lack of speed and height there.

This thread is fine example of what happens when there is an international brake.... Everyone just gets a little bit board.

Without exaggerating I think he could be our Tony Adams/Rio Ferdinand/John Terry/Sergio Ramos, has bags of potential and is very ambitious. Still incredibly early days for a CB but a very good find, if he continues improving as he has it might become very difficult to keep hold of him, very talented.

I remember before season started that an ITK said Dier was one for the future and primarily a squad/back up player this season , he will get plenty of games

Without exaggerating that's the biggest exaggeration any body has ever made, ever. ;)

On a serious note - He clearly has the potential to be a premiership player, I just hope we keep the faith for long enough to see his potential reached and we aren't just looking at the profit margins.
