Would not want the club to sell him and think he could be a great centre half but
I am not keen on him as a dm very wasteful with his passing unless it's backwards and gets caught upfield out of position to often for my liking.

Sell Toby.

Move Dier to the back 3.

Buy a quality ball-playing positive CM.

Play Victor or at a push Dembele alongside him.

Done.

I’ve never been that convinced with him at centre half unless it’s been in a three. I think he’s perfect for the right hand side of a back three. He was great there last season.

While Dier has his weaknesses I would be gutted if we sold him at this stage of his development.

Fortunately I don’t think the club are remotely considering it.

Exactly my feelings. When I look at our first 11, it's difficult to see where we could realistically improve the team. Dier may be one who springs to mind. At times his passing can be sloppy, conceding possession which leads to some panicky moments at the back (usually when he play DM). But he's young, improving, gaining incredible experience, a mountain of a man, adaptable, great attitude. He's been an important part of us finishing 3rd, 2nd 3rd(?) the last three seasons and I too would be gutted to sell him.

A guy who epitomises Poch, he’s a warrior. Granted he’s not been his usual brilliant self lately but sell him? No way and thankfully I think Poch would agree

Seriously think Southgate May move him into the back 3 with the lack of options. Which would be great for us if has a good tournament. As said he could be top draw as a CB but will only ever be mediocre in CM.

Warrior I agree but in the position he plays he needs to use the ball better than he does.

It would cost upwards of £30m to replace Dier, utter nonsense that we should even consider selling him :banghead:

24-years old, can only get better and now has four seasons worth of Prem experience.

Ask Arsenal how they've got on trying to find a solid defensive mid, they would absolutely snap our hands off for him! Who's better in the Prem, Kante and Matic? Can't think of many more.

Seeing Sissoko tonight make me remember how much I love Dier.

He has such a good range of passing, always looking for a ball out wide to the full backs. Or a ball dinked in to Alli or Kane. He is a huge miss for us in the center

Just heard both his parents have double firsts from Cambridge. Guess this explains his head size, brain must be huge ?

Southgate has done well with England so far therefore I don't want to be overly critical however I feel we need to move the ball forward better. I believe Dier does that better than Henderson. Now if Dier isn't ahead of Henderson in midfield he is certainly ahead of Maguire and Stones at the back.

I truly hate Henderson and I love Dier, but Dier isn’t more forward thinking in his passing than Jordan Henderson, nor is he a better fit than Stones for a ball carrying CB at international level.

Henderson is a sideways player his passing is not in the same league as Dier. Forgetting the two goals Stones scored as a defender he is a liability. Dier is a more composed defender imo.

It amazes me how much Dier's underrated he certainly had good schooling at Sporting Lisbon

The defender doing most of the carrying this tournament has been Maguire followed by Walker. Stones has been a great threat from set plays.

I agree that Dier is underrated. Probably one of his best assets is his versatility between CM and CB positions, which has probably harmed his progression because managers and maybe even Dier himself have never been sure which is actually the better position to be in. That's why he's such a useful option on the bench because he can be subbed on for both positions.

To give credit to Henderson, even though he may pass sideways he recycles the ball very quickly, thereby opening space and angles for a quick forward ball to the front three of Salah, Mane and Firmino. Many of the best opportunities of the game come through counter-attacking, and Henderson wouldn't survive in a Liverpool team that thrives on that strategy if he didn't move the ball on and transition the play quickly.

Dier really is dire. What a terrible performance. Slow, ponderous. He looks a shadow of the player from a few years ago.

I struggle to see what he excels at. Always seems to give the ball away cheaply every time he plays.
