I don’t give a shit about those people.

I have given an honest appraisal of Dier in the Dier thread. It is almost all praise and I pointed out an area for improvement as I would any player.

Why you have decided to try and make out I think he is a bad player I have no idea.

If you want to discuss with someone , read the words they have written and respond to them.

Bringing up what other people have said in other discussions is really fucking weird.

Fwiw, Dier speaks very well in the Independent article.

« I always see now, when big teams are doing badly, people say they need to spend another £200m or £300m. I just think it’s crazy,” he says. “People are looking at the wrong things if they think they need to spend money to change things. For me, people use it as an excuse.

It’s just my personal opinion, but I think we are a good example because we have had to find different ways to achieve the same results as other teams. I think in the long run we will be in a better position for it. People love to talk about the fact we have not signed anyone but we have got a fantastic squad. First of all, why sign someone if they are not going to improve that? And secondly, we have got a fantastic atmosphere – we work extremely hard and the manager has instilled that culture in the club, every player has it. If they don’t, they won’t be welcome here. That’s more important than any amount of money you can spend. »

His words in the papers today is why Poch loves him. He sounds completely absorbed in the manager’s thoughts. Or believing what he says anyway.

these last few pages are ridiculous

guy has almost 200 appearances (Poch picks him damn near every game) in our most successful spell in ages. He scored a game winner in his his debut. Can play fullback centerback or defensive midfield. Has made several starts internationally. But yeah he’s not good enough for us cmon fuck off

If people didn't talk about things they weren't "qualified" to talk about then we wouldn't talk about anything, it's a forum, literally a place designed for opinions.

It's not that I don't think he's good enough for us. I think as a squad player he's fine, and as you say can play in various positions so is useful. For me though as a CM/DM he just does OK and nothing more. IMO he is the week link of our starting XI, and I'd much prefer to see Wanyama when fully fit because his skill set is far more suited to that destroyer role. Dembele also plays the DM better and offers better ball retention for my money and I'd much rather see those two paired together or one of them and Winks, especially in the bigger games.

Like I say there is certainly a place for Dier within the squad as he does everything asked of him to a satisfactory level, he just doesn't excel at anything.

He should have been brought on when we took the lead and probably should have started ahead of Moussa Dembélé but I suppose its easy to say that with the benefit of hindsight. ?

Would you agree that Dembele plays the DM role better after today? I think Dembele is an incredibly skill full footballer, but the last place i would play him is as a DM. I think he can bully on the front foot, but not on the back foot. I love Moussa but he is a vanity player, has desire with the ball not so much without it. Probably to do with his upbringing in dribble ball in the cages which has been well documented. He's not really ever learned to be a team player by nature, its something he needs to think about.

missed dier today. (just starting to watch the game now but i can tell by the result n last ten minutes i watched). dier is a leader and a shouter even when out of form. dembele is not a defensive midfielder. he can put a shift in and tackle well at times but he's always played better next to a more limited/defensive minded player, it takes the pressure off him.
having to play vorm and then dropping dier is never a good idea away from home. i miss wanyama.
