They play different positions.

I think Clarke will be Lamela's eventual replacement tbh.
Grealish can play up the pitch or deeper. I think he is better suited further up the pitch, just hovering around as an attacking midfielder. Both left, centrally and on the right. Can pick a pass and has a good shot. Lamela slows things down too often and is so one footed, it kills me.

Grealish is a CMF though, he may have started out as an AMF but he's dropped back to a no6 or no10 for Villa.
In the championship last season, a lot of people say he is a CMF, but he really wasnt

I spent more time watching championship footy than PL last season he was like Eriksen when he plays deeper for us, he always had Whelan and Hourihane behind him in CM/DM

He plays a free role where he does drop down deeper similar to Eriksen but he is an AM

Ha irony is that Lamela nicked the ball off Grealish for the 2nd goal when he was dithering on the ball, point taken though.

That's fine but when we were linked to him last summer it's well documented that we were looking to sign him as our midfield replacement, I personally think his long term future is in CMF, he effects the game more there.

Lamela only slows things down when he's running with the ball as he's not the quickest, but he's got one of the quickest minds and feet when it comes to playing little passes around the box.

Not denying he's one-footed, but - as posted numerous times on SC - this criticism seems reserved for left-footed players and often held against them more than those who're naturally right-footed.

He's a perfect bench and rotation option because he works extremely hard and is decently skilled. Not what we would have hoped for when he signed, but he's a very nice option to have.

The real problem for me is how unreliable his health is, that's why I think he'll get sold this summer if we can get a decent fee. It's just really tough have a guy on 80k/week and one of the top ten earners at the club who generally isn't available for 50% or more of the season.

He thinks he is a human cannonball!
He runs 'at' the centre of the opposition's defence and then 'into' the centre of the opposition's defence.

"He's the guy, sometimes he gets the ball and just runs at people and I know how annoying that is as a defender or midfielder, you have a player who is just going to keep running at you and he will run through you".

"I mean, if you are in the way, he's going to run through you, so he's a confident guy at the moment".

Christian Eriksen talking about Moussa Sissoko after the Everton game last season. Maybe Érik wants a piece of that!

I think people should just accept he’s a very decent squad player. He’s now 6th choice AM/winger possibly 7th with Sessegnon. For what he is I doubt we’d find much better quality. For all his bad moments he does influence games in decisive moments.

Plus whether you love or hate him, we would not have beaten Aston Villa without his industry. On another note, I wish you all would watch the game again with a view on the second half. We upped our game big time and was far more offensive before Eriksen came on, ie he did not change the game as most have said. The game opened up when we changed from the diamond where Lamela and co were more able to find space and were more effective. Eriksen coming on just added to and cemented the flow of the game, but t was not changed because of him. Believing that is doing a disservice to the other players imo

Lamela will be higher than 6th/7th choice he will be challenging for first team place, He is a Poch favourite and he values hard work highly. He will be seeing plenty of minutes the rest is down to him

People have gone totally overboard on eriksen performance. Yes he played well but wasn’t involved in any of the goals. Effectively we took off a DM and put on another attacking player. Had it been Son Dele or Lo Celso I suspect we’d have seen a similar tempo change.

He will be ahead of Son Dele Eriksen Lo Celso Moura ? Can probably chuck Sessegnon in as well.

In my view Lamela is one of those players that always but always gives 100% and for that alone he has my respect there are moments in games where his effort effects games note Saturday and his hunting down Grealish.
There are some players that are idolised by some for occasional moments of brilliance and thats fine but for myself I have always loved the 100% effort players no matter their ability. Players like Tommy Harmer . Phil Beale .John Pratt. David Howells .Justin Edinburgh .
Stefan freund .there are many more but you get the idea they are the type of players that when not playing they are a big miss because of there commitment to team ethos.

Goal
Assist
Pressed well and won the ball back from the City players
Was a constant nuisance in the 1st half but seemed to tire in the 2nd. Hope he can stay fit for the rest of the season.
