Really interesting comments from Ryan Mason on Lamela. He talks about how he loves football and gives 100% in every game.

Lamela's work rate is truly exceptional, even at 6-1 up against Rochdale he chased down every ball and pressed on his own at times. He doesn't have the goal/assist return of our other players, but he is so important to our press.
But the important thing, as I've always expressed, is that we didn't spend up to £30m for Lamela based on his work rate. We spent it based on his flair and ability to create and score goals, very little of which we've seen in PL.

It's a busted flush, and immediately Moura has outperformed him with what was required.

If you want a list of players we bought(plus one) to perform specific roles, and be somewhat outstanding in them, but they didn't, so we relegated them to lesser roles, and they were then lauded on work rate, here it is;

Gary Stevens, David Howells, Paul Stewart, Erik Lamela

The lesson is you will probably need to be outstanding to look great as a CB, attacking wide player or striker, but you can look quite good in midfield if you put in a lot of effort.

Lol imagine thinking Lamela hasn't shown an 'ability to create'.

If that's true, then why aren't you out there making millions of dollars by playing midfield at a PL team? You make it sound as if it's the easiest way of becoming a millionaire.

Just exactly what has he created in the PL in appearances? Note, not in cup games.

Reminds me of the utter shite I got for posting that Gomes wasn't the best keeper in PL and I definitely wouldn't allow him to shag my wife! You ask yourselves where those posters are now? Oh, they've "moved on".

Lamela will have moved back to Italy within a year(check my predictions on offers for Toby - savage replies but then what happened? Oh yeah, a few days later City, Utd and Madrid reported interest).

The season we signed him from Italy, he'd scored 15 league goals, so you'd think he might score 10 league goals here. What's his record, despite injuries? Has he looked anywhere near that? Has he looked like near £30m?

He's looked nearer Sissoko in expectations.

Nostradamus, eat your heart out!

I mean, predicting that papers would link teams with Alderweireld when everyone knows there’s ongoing contract talks shows staggering foresight.

He created the 6th most chances in the PL in 15-16, his last injury-free season.

Does it even matter that he hasn't scored too many goals - we have Kane, Eriksen, Alli and Son who can score - I'm fine with Lamela not being a prolific goalscorer as long as he's still creating chances for others.

Who gives a fuck that we spent £30m on him nearly 5 fucking years ago? Get over it. £30m would get you a much shittier player nowadays.

And congratulations for making some extremely difficult predictions in the past. Well done. Top man. I'm sure those posters who "moved on" are absolutely terrified of the great 'seanwhite1961'. In fact, I'm shitting myself writing this reply right now.

Lamela hasn't scored as many as we'd hoped, but that is probably in large part down to injuries having wrecked nearly every season he's has with is. He has created loads of chances, and I think he's our best player in terms of through balls. His technique is exceptional (just watch the Bentaleb v Lamela 2-touch contest they did on tour: ). And most importantly he has an incredible work rate and attitude.

Davies is equally as bad as Aurier and gets nothign but praise. Aurier gave away a stupid penalty that was missed by Juve. Davies gave away a stupid one that was scored.

As bad as what?

I love how passionate he is when he gets the point shouting "YES!"

Also I get some sad act is going to see that he only used his right foot 4 times in that and only twice to make the pass and use it as an excuse to say he is one footed.

Yes I know I have set that one up to get shot but I honestly only counted out of curiosity to see if someone would try to argue that. I mean look at my username, I've loved the guy since he joined us :D

What a load of agenda driven balls. Comparing him to mediocrities like Howells and Stewart is pathetic. He may not be the Bale replacement we hoped for at the time, but his value to us, particularly in 15/16 when he registered a goal or assist every other league match, is obvious to all but the most bloody minded. At 26 he still has more than enough time ahead of him to become a great.

I love lamela and on his day is as good as any of our players. Yes he only uses his right foot to stand on, however, if he was good with his right foot too he probably would be playing for a bigger club than ours.
Nobody on our team sees a pass as quickly as he does (admittedly sometimes its too fast for our players to be ready for)

If I'm not mistaken he has been number 1 or 2 for assists when he has played a full season. His goal return could improve but it seemed to be before he had the year long lay off. We definitely look more incisive with him in the team. Big problem we have is fitting in Lamela, Son, Alli, Eriksen and Moura into 2 or 3 positions. Good strength in depth but no one really deserves to be left out.

As long as we make CL again there will be plenty of game time for all of them.
