Does not really end speculation because lots of question marks surrounding will he reach the levels at least before his elongated injury? 50/50 if he will. I honestly hope he does. It is only so long you can hope against hope. He basically HAS to make that scheduled date with no more set-backs.

Or what... he retires? Or we claim some sort of insurance before releasing him?

Any precedent?

Nothing would likely happen. We wouldn't be able to sell him given his current state and despite the mutterings, I don't think he's looking at retirement. If anything, it'd make Pochettino question his mentality which for him is just as bad as him questioning your footballing ability.

Sorry, I cannot elaborate any further. Go back to my posts (archives) relating to Lamela when he just got injured, and prior. Everyone was harping on about a new contract etc, and the rest. I was giving opinions which were hints, and they were spammed/WTF/ meh neg ratings etc. The clue is there.

Please spare them the effort and tell them again. They will believe you this time based on your brilliant ITK credibility

Went back to look and only saw that you mentioned he has a 2 year option on his current deal (which most players do) and that his head wasn't right, which you didn't really elaborate on.

I didn't elaborate for reasons I still cannot, but the 'head' is the key to all this.

If it was completely in his head, would they really do surgery on both hips. Even if it was keyhole. Surely if nothing turned up in the first one they wouldn't then do the second. I guess if there is a mental aspect to all this, which seems likely, it comes down to how severe it is. it seems he is back in training now so seems to be on the mend which wouldn't be aloud if he was still feeling too mentally fragile to sevive the rigours of even basic training.

Even if we aren't privy to some stuff that goes on behind the scenes like yourself and others it's obvious and just good common sense that we can't rely on a player who hasn't played in a year (with also a similar type of injury that hampered him in his first season). Not to mention the mental aspect which is more than speculation as Poch even alluded to it himself.

Given that are you not surprised that we've left ourselves really with only Eriksen as our only senior player with any creativity? I know we obviously want Barkley, but we knew he wasn't an option this window.

Since I have hip problems myself and had two operations, I have tried to read up a bit on it. Of course Lamela is a elite athlete, and the medical team involved are probably absolutely top class, but I have read more than one doctor saying that a hip operation is one of the most difficult surgical interventions to fully recover from. So it’s no surprise if the club isn’t sure he’ll play again. =(

All clubs buy insurance for if a player gets injured. In most cases the insurers will pay the weekly salary whilst the player is injured, so long as the injury is covered. There will be a ton of medical reports and second opinions to get to the bottom of what's wrong, it's not just the club who have a big interest in him getting well but the insurers too!

Indeed you don't have a exploratory surgery then the actual corrective surgery if it's in your head. Second surgery implies the first found the issue.

Unless of course all the conspiracy theories are true and he's secretly been having electro shock, If that doesn't work Eric we'll have to try alternative methods

Do we have to know the details, though? Can't we just accept that "something" is up, and the chance of seeing him play again soon is unusually limited, and hope the best for him?

Whatever the issues it's a big shame that we have been without Erik for so long. I hope he can get himself back to full fitness and start contributing to the squad again soon.

It looks likely to be a slow recovery and it might be a while before he shows the kind of form he had when at his best for us.
