it's an absolute shame Lamela wasn't included in the CL squad, I feel we're going to need some of his input against Madrid at Wembs and Dortmund away.

I agree with this. Hopefully, the fans can have patience with him and also conjure up a resounding welcome for him, each time he steps on the field after he returns to full training. Clearly he's a bit fragile in terms of confidence.... it may sound strange, but we as fans can actually play an active role in the mental part of his game by making him not only welcome when he returns but also celebrated. Hearing the fans go bananas the first few times he gets on the field will do his ego a world of good. Don't underestimate the human mind's desire for praise and adulation.
So, consider this a call to action for those that get to see him live this year... sing his name, sing it loudly and applaud voraciously any time he touches the ball.
It'll be awesome to have him back again.
He has pretty much always been very popular with the fans. He really has had some tough times since arriving at spurs and he has always faced them with a great attitude and real dignity imo. Never moans, never hides. I really like him. Fantastic attitude.

People say that the team has improved which is true, but very often Lamela was restricted by our team. His strengths are his vision and use of the ball not running with it or taking people on. He is a very progressive passer, always looking to move the ball forward quickly and get it back. We are now very fluid in the forward areas and he won't be stuck out wide as he was previously. I think he will flourish in this team.

I've always felt that he is more creative than Eriksson, in a different way, because he sees things quickly. Where Eriksen might make 3 or 4 telling passes in a game, Lamela will make 10 simply because he is looking to do that every time gets the ball and is able to turn.

We have been lacking somebody who is able to pick out little passes around the box and go for the return. He is direct and aggressive in his play where Eriksen is a lot more subtle. At the very least he will offer us a different way of doing things.

And apart from all of that, with Lamela you get a guaranteed level of effort for 90 minutes. He never stops. He literally runs himself into the ground every single match. So many times we would be having one of those slow home games and it would be Lamela who would drive us forward and get the crowd going. Whether with a quality pass, a tackle or just some insane 30 second burst of closing down.

Given a couple of months to get fit, he will be like a new signing. He is certainly better than loads of the players who are currently valued at £30-40 million! I'd have him over the likes of Oxalade-chamberlain any day!

Great to see him back.

It would also be good to give Sissoko that kind of support. Not that I think he's great but we could surely help him improve.
Fans are starting to warm to him and he has looked better recently. He just isn't good enough imo. Poor technically and lacks composure in the final 3rd. Lamela is a vastly better player and works much harder off of the ball.

From UEFA website.
Can clubs change their squads again this season?
Yes ... if they get through to the knockout stage. Ahead of the round of 16, by midnight on 1 February, clubs can register a maximum of three new players.

Come on Erik. Cannae wait to see you as part of this squad properly again. Fingers crossed for the lad. Would be another great option for this team.

P.s. Wonder what the odds are on him getting sent off in his first game back?! He must have been bottling it up! Haha.

Bottom line I think when fit he is our best wide right option so I welcome him back when fit. Hopefully by end of November? Are they saying any dates yet or usual back in training?

With 343 clearly being preferred formation. It will be tough for him to break the Kane dele eriksen trio.I honestly think he could be a great CM.He has the physicality energy and creativity. As AM Lamela and eriksen are very similar.I’d like our AM bench option to be something different like the pacey winger.A front 7 like below would be hugely exciting.
Aurier Lamela dier Rose
Dele Kane eriksen

I'm quite excited for his return actually, I think he'll fit in really well with the way we play now, nice little touches/passes around the box etc like @walworthyid said. Completely agree. Absolute cliche, but it will be like a new signing, and we definitely need cover in those positions anyway, someone to take a bit of pressure off Eriksen.

to mention Erik in the same breath as Eriksen is a joke,

It's really not if you consider his form before his injury.

I've always been critical of Lamela, and I think it took him far too long to justify his price-tag when he first joined. But after a season and a bit under Poch he really started to flourish both in terms of his attacking impact and his role within the team generally (pressing etc).

I'm sure the stats showed that his chance-creation at the time was hugely impressive, and he was involved in a lot of what we did well.

I'm far from convinced he can come back and get back to that level after so long out (these long-term injuries are often a complete fucker career wise) but if we can get him back to his best and get him in the team with Eriksen we'll be an extremely difficult team to stop scoring.

Best pressed we have of the ball in the final third and, though he can be sloppy, he is braver with his passing than most. Offers more than Nkoudou and Sissoko so will improve our options massively when fit. However, with Son's huge improvements he's got some work to do to reemerge as a guest choice after so long out.
