At last a player who sees the pass into the area and delivers it first time ....nice to see him back. Also Son must be a first choice from now on

Time to drop Eriksen for Lamela, just for a few games.Give Eriksen a rest, show him he's not untouchable, and his form will skyrocket when he comes back.
I actually think Eriksen needs to play alongside Lamela, rather than being dropped. Lamela will bring Eriksen more into the game with his 1 and 2 touch passing and will also create more space and options for Eriksen. Teams have been able to close down Eriksen in last few weeks as our movement up top has been poor and our attacking players are slowing the game down.
If Lamela can also start running past the strikers as well, like he was starting to do prior to his injury - this will create more space for Kane, Dele and Son as well.

Eriksen needs a rest. We’ve seen him perform fantastically without Lamela to link up with - and Kane is much better at link up this season than last.

I'm not sure Eriksen does need a rest, i just think he needs more support in the creative area's of the pitch.
Agree - he has performed superbly without Lamela, but other factors have also been in his favour - a fit DM, Toby spraying quick and early passes, a fit Kane, a fit on form Dele etc.
We are going through a sticky patch at the moment and our players are static or running in straight lines and the passing is slow as we're not creating spaces for each other. This leaves Eriksen with very few forward options and hence he looks off form. In my opinion. I hope we get to see Lamela and Eriksen working together for some part of the game on Sat - i'm sure we'll look a more fluent team.

He's obviously not our best player, but technically he is up there.

The thing is, he plays passes like that all the time. He is the best through-ball player at the club, bar none. Eriksen has it in him, but never seems to really go for through balls. We do too much passing in to feet lately, Lamela is somebody who likes to play it in front. The amount of times Rose/Aurier/Dier/Eriksen smashed the ball into Kane or Dele's feet and expected them to do something with it when surrounded by 4 players was silly yesterday.

Really glad to see him back, could see he wasn't fully fit as he wasn't charging around as much, but him at full fitness will be a great option for us.

This all day long.

The balls-to-feet thing has been driving me crazy lately, not least because our forwards almost always have their backs to goal (apart from Son, who comes from wide or deeper to collect), meaning they have an almost impossible task to score from there. I was shouting to play it in front of Kane or Son at the WBA game (I was also screaming for them to attack the space in the box - the amount of balls that get flashed across the goal line we never make contact with is infuriating - can’t think why none of them listened to me).

Lamela is pretty much the only player at the moment who will play the ball into space for the striker to run on to. His weight of pass is rarely anything less than perfect and he frees up space for players to shoot without being surrounded by ten defenders.

I bet Kane is bloody glad he’s back, he might actually be able to face up the goal rather than playing with his back to it all the time now.

A good write-up from the ever-excellent Ben Pearce:

Lamela: I feared the worst during 13-month injury hell

It has been a bad week for Tottenham but Erik Lamela at least has reasons to smile.

While his team-mates were enduring another frustrating afternoon at Wembley on Saturday, drawing 1-1 with West Bromwich Albion, he was witnessing the birth of his first child – a son.

Then, on Tuesday night, the midfielder’s long-awaited return from injury provided the sole silver lining from the 2-1 defeat at Leicester City.

Appearing off the bench in the 77th minute in place of Christian Eriksen, Lamela took the final steps on a long road to recovery – a road which started 13 months ago when he entered the treatment room, and involved operations on both of his hips.

“It was crazy, probably the worst time of my life,” said Lamela. “I really wanted to play but it took too long, my injury.

“The lowest point was when I did two surgeries in one and a half months. I was not available to play but was working every day and doing the right rehabilitation. In my mind was always the feeling that I wanted to play and be back with the team.

“Did I ever worry I wouldn’t come back? Of course, in really bad times you always think the worst.

“But my family was always with me and the supporters who wanted me on the pitch, they brought me energy to work every day and to never give up. I’m here today because I really wanted it, and when you really want something you can do it.

“The manager and all the staff honestly were amazing. They were always with me, behind me. All of us wanted the same thing – me playing. Sometimes you have to respect the times and today I feel better.”

Asked about becoming a father, Lamela said: “I’m so happy for this and I want to go home now to see him.”

In the build-up to Tuesday’s trip to Leicester, Pochettino urged Spurs’ supporters to be patient with Lamela and not expect too much too early.

But the Argentinian made an impact within two minutes of his introduction, setting up Harry Kane for a goal that halved Spurs’ deficit and gave them renewed hope of finding an equaliser.

It did not arrive though and, having missed Tottenham’s famous European nights against Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid this season, Lamela returns to a side that is lying outside the top four and facing a fight to qualify for the Champions League again.

“I feel good to be back on the pitch but disappointed for the result,” said the Argentinian. “Of course I can get much better. I’m still not 100 per cent but I’m good enough to play and I’m happy to be back.

“It’s only a bad week. I believe 100 per cent in this team, I know the quality that we have. I believe we have a very, very good team and we will be better of course.

“I want the best for my club, because me and my team-mates are friends. After a long time out I want the best for my club and of course I want the best for me.”

The challenge now for Lamela is to prove his fitness, return to his best form and then earn a new contract, given his current deal with Tottenham expires in 2019.

“I don’t want to think about it. I’m only focused on keeping playing, recovering for training tomorrow and taking it day by day,” said Lamela.

Absolutely fucking love this guy. Love the fact he says “my club” just little things like that I really like, it sums up his passion and dedication. What a dude.

Only thing I don’t like about that piece, and I’m probably over thinking this, is when he said “and the supporters who wanted me” it’s like he knows there’s a lot of pricks out there who don’t. I fucking hate twitter and the abuse players get. Hated the abuse that proper Spurs boys like Mason and Townsend get but it’s just as bad giving a guy like Lamela who isn’t a spurs boy like Mason or Kane but who clearly gives everything for us when he’s on the pitch and he’s the kinda guy who plays with emotion and loves whoever he plays for.

Anyway, hope he just ignores that shit and irs great he knows there’s lots of us who appreciate him.

Nothing but man love for Coco.

If ever you want some nutritional support, of the organic badass biochemical type Coco, just PM me, I'll hook you up with some lymph supporting suggestions to keep those hips free of debris.

With Coco I suspect his protein intake is too high, of forms his body struggles with (purine rich). If he must eat red meats it must be from the highest grass fed, lush mineral ground, farms, on rare treat occasions. This is prone to overloading the kidneys I believe, giving people regular back aches or other symptoms (wasn't Eric's first season injury undiagnosed back injury?). Instead his focus should be on plant based proteins (well diet would be ideal, but unlikely).

http://www.acumedico.com/purine.htm

"It should be remembered that food is usually responsible for only ca. 30% of the uric acid content in the blood serum. Diet is very important to those who wish to lower their uric acid, yet other considerations should not be overlooked. Extremely physical exertion or traumatic injuries may contribute to the occurrence of gout. Also foods that elevate the blood acidity, despite their low purine content, may cause an aggravation of gout. Some examples may be: very spicy and greasy food, coffee, alcohol, excess tea, deeply fried food and more. In Chinese medicine concepts, these foods fall under the category of Heat and Damp producing foods and beverages."

Dunno anything about who's site that is, but I like that page muchly.

Anyway, what the heck do I know.

People say Eriksen needs competition and a player to rotate with and we have it in Lamela in my opinion. Don't bother wasting our money on anyone else of that ilk, plough every last penny into a dynamic forward to backup Kane and come on as a sub.

If we can get Eriksen and Dele back in top form our bench could suddenly look strong and full of "game changers" in Son, Lamela and a new signing but also mean pressure on first teamers and not a drop off in levels if rotated in.

I won't hold hope of a new striker being anything though with our horrendous recent transfer record in that position.

Forward, Wide man, AM and DM. We need all four IMO and people that are not afraid of a challenge. If we want to compete with the best, we need to really have a full squad comp.

Forward - IDK who
Wide Man - Richarlison
AM - Edwards I hope
DM - Ndidi I think is good cover for Victor.

Our goal is to have deep runs in multiple cups and comps so it is imperative the likes of Kane get a rest here and there. Especially with the World Cup coming up next year.

Surprise surprise I see the tide's turned in this thread then, there's a couple of posters conspicuous by their absence :D

Right? The most depressing thing during his absence was the idiots that threw around ill-claimed rumors. Dude never gave less than 110%, comes down with a hip injury that is traditionally a scary injury, his brother gets in a horrific accident, his lady is pregnant and he does everything to come back to support his team. Yet idiots (probably follow Donald trump on twitter) decide to join Breidbart with their conspiracy ways.

Hello, where is the "we have seen the last of Lamela", the "he has played his last game for us", "he is a cop out and the injury is all in his head" brigade? Your silence is deafening!
