I have been critical of Lamela in the past, but I do not question his attitude or love of Spurs. I think he is a good option off the bench against a tired opponent because, as the game opens up, he has more time to control the ball to let his other qualities come through. I don't see him as a first 11 player but if he is happy being an occasional starter and impact player off the bench, he can be a very valuable option.

I disagree, he's much more than an occasional starter/impact player. I think we'll see a lot more rotation once he's back to fill fitness and Moura is up to speed.

Two games sum up lamela's contribution at Spurs. One against manchester city where he gave the through ball to eriksen in the dying moments of the game and it won us the game and the other one is his fabolous performance vs man utd where we beat them 3-0.

Nice performance as the No.10 against Newport. He is coming back to form and fitness. Just when we need him. He'll be an able back up for Eriksen as well as a threat to the opposition in his own right.

Honestly, I thought he was finished at Spurs and thought we would never see him play for us again at one stage. I wasn't fussed but I've been impressed with his attitude and form since his return to the team.

He will be a very capable and handy player in the latter stages of the season and should we get passed Juventus and onto squeaky bum time in the CL I think he's well suited to those games in Europe. We need all the depth we can get and if he continues to do what he's doing then I'm happy he stays at Spurs

Think last night will be great for his confidence in his recovery. Doesn't matter about the level of opposition, its more that he never stopped running, or showing for the pass, right up until the final whistle. Looks to be nearing full fitness again.

Anyone got a clip of that challenge he made at the end of the first half?

Not bad for someone who "doesn't like to tackle or be tackled"...

If we set up to counter attack then he'd be my choice as the no.10. His first thought is to play someone in on goal. He's far more of a risk taker than Eriksen.

If we are set up to control possesion then it's Eriksen.

I'd love to see us go back to 3421 with Eriksen and lamela behind Kane.

Just seen his interview after last night's game and he sounded exhausted, that ninety minutes is going to be massive in building his stamina.

Brilliant for him to get the minutes under his belt. He's hopefully on a similar path (recovery wise) from that little prick down the road.

Played well against a few poor teams, and had a bit of game time in more strenuous matches now let's see if he can keep it up. When fit and on form he's a real asset. I agree he's wasted out wide and here's hoping that with Lucas in now, he won't get shunted out wide so often and can take the burden from Eriksen in the number 10

Erik Lamela's 'fantastic mentality' means is will be easy to discover his best form again, says Mauricio Pochettino

Spurs manager Pochettino praised Lamela's attitude in battling back to fitness.

"He was more than one year out and it's never easy to come back and perform in that way that he was before," Pochettino said.

"But he should because he loves football and he loves training and I think his mentality is fantastic.

"I think it's going to be easy to recover his real level, or improve because he's more mature and you learn; in a tough moment you learn a lot, no doubt.

"It's important because he's an important player."

He had an opportunity to rabona a shot yesterday but took it with his right, fucking fraud. I was led to believe he didn't have a right foot? His volley had 100% swaz on the edge of the box too

Got a long way to go before he can be relied upon to fill Eriksens place in the side when needed but he is doing ok and working his way back to full fitness and flow.

Looks more suited to the 10 role than out wide

Could tell that after half a dozen games. I think the 3 at the back system would suit him even better. Great option to have either on the bench or rotation of the first 11.

IMO he's always liked a tackle. He's one of the most tenacious forwards I can think of.

Yeah he's a good option to play either on right or centrally (where'd I'd like to see him more) and along with Moura will give us better options as we've only really had Eriksen, Dele and Son as decent options in attacking midfield and if we play 4-2-3-1 (which we have a lot lately) we didn't have anyone spare.

He is willing to get stuck in and press and that's one of his biggest qualities for me but the tackle you're talking about didn't look great. Lucky it wasn't a European game or he would have been in trouble.

The tackle was entirely clean, not sure why he would have been in trouble?
