His form of two years ago was fantastic, he then started the next season the same way, only for bad injury to hit him. Yes he’s been back a while now, and played quite a few minutes (which is testament to him, as those who don’t get a pre-season generally are over looked by Poch), but he’s still not 100% there in terms of match fitness/sharpness. This pre-season is key for him, he has proved he can do more, it’s up to him to actually go out there and do it. I hope he does, cos I like his fire, determination, and skill.

His form of two years ago made us wish we had someone better, a pathetic five goals in a whole season playing in a dominant team says it all, he is inadequate.

Isn't 5 years without cementing his place not long enough for you to understand he's not good enough. He is a bang average squad player.

But he had already cemented his place about two seasons ago, and the only reason he has lost his status as a regular starter was because of a serious injury that kept him sidelined for more than a year. I'm curios to see how does that fits into your narrative that he's a bang average squad player.

Because his competition was Townsend.

He needs to be sold pronto.

Lamela's had 5 years to prove he’s not shit he has failed miserably. That puts him near the top of the to-do list. We improved leaps and bounds without him in the team and finished second last season. Playing efficient, effective football and breaking a host of statistical records. Lamela was not needed, not missed and we were better for it.

^

The guy has literally created an account on SC in order to criticise and abuse Lamela, nothing else. That’s almost all he’s posted.

From today, and many recent performances, I cannot see the clamour to keep him. He is offering nothing. Let’s be fair with no bias or agendas please.

He's offering energy, aggressivity and some good tackles but doesn't do the offensive things he's suppose to do – at least he doesn't do them enough.

Or, you know, you could wait until the end of the game. Let’s be fair with no agendas or bias please.

As I said many occasions mate, I am a fan and say it as I see it. Either way, and nothing wrong with that. His first half was very poor, so entitled at the time

And then he scores-well done

What a difference a half makes. We even saw towards the close of the 2nd half, before he was subbed, Erik running around hassling players, forcing his teammates to do the same. I think he needs another injury free pre-season to gain his overall game back. He still has a role to play for us.

Excellent second half, worked super hard

Always shows for the ball despite the poor first, and got us back in the game with his goals
