The only way I see us going all out for Lamela is if we intend on selling Bale in 2014. Either that or we concede that if we're keeping Bale in 14/15 it's because we made Champions League and at that point we settle that all of the CL money went to Lamela the summer before.

Levy don't work like that, though.

Sorry, but that's just wrong. River was not forced to sell Lamela. The debts has nothing to do with the relegation. And River's relegation is like Man United going down, not us.
River sold Lamela because Roma payed 20m euros for a 19yr old with only a season as a professional.
They had to sell him because it was an offer very difficult to refuse. Nothing to do with relegation or debt. Besides Lamela didn't want to leave
The two are not mutually exclusive, if they had huge debts and were relegated [less income next season], and were then offered a huge sum for a 19 year old, that gives them even more reason to sell.

Only needed to watch a few minutes to see his got it. Would be an epic signing but unlikely! Him and Benteke in would really cause problems for the teams above us. Lets all hope!

With the depth that we'd have and the transition other top clubs are going through, we could be a real thorn in the side at the top of the EPL table.

The only problem with this for me is that Lamela is very similar to Bale and I can't believe that Levy would spend at least 15m on a player like this unless we sold Bale, which isn't going to happen. Would love it to happen but I'm finding it very difficult to believe this at all. Sounds like lazy journalism after Baldini's exit from Roma.

Lamela is a wide left player if he got him (doubtful) him and bale with a top striker is frightening! Hes not too similar to bale I dnt think if they were to buy him it would be a replacement for him but personally I just can't see it happening! :(

Plays mainly on the right from what I've seen. Would need to work on the defensive side of his game.

From what I've seen, Lamela looks to be as good as Bale and Ronaldo were at that age (20). With the same style and physique we should be looking at Lamela like an investment - directly in his value and the value of the success a player like this could bring to the team (CL football? Exposure?).

Bale and Lamela interchanging would be unreal. If you throw in someone like Villa, who can play centrally and wide as well, we'd be one hell of an attacking force. Lennon, Siggy and Ade from the bench/rotation as and when needed...:brb:

See, that's where you are wrong. There is not less income, at least not for someone like River. The television rights where the same. The ticket prices were the same.
And in fact, the season River was in the second division, the stadium was 100% full the 19 home games, so in fact they recieved more than what they got the season before in the first division.

I know this because I'm from Buenos Aires, I'm a River fan and have family contacts inside the club

If the fee for Bernard is too much for us what do you think the bigger fee for Lamela will be?
