Our financial position has changed drastically last season and this one so I'm not surprised we can now align our wage policy with the 'big' clubs.
Our matchday revenue must be close to what Arsenal make (100 million) compared to our old £40 million so half of that can go on wages at £600,000 a week. Chucking an extra £100,000 week at one of our starting eleven is now well within our budget.

26 for the season now, 23 behind Clive Allen's 49 goals.
I'm sure he's aiming for that record and the club hope he gets it which is partly which Clive Allen was the half time "guest" on Thursday. He probably wanted to play today to allow more chances to score. It could be close if we have a few more cup games!

We really are going to run Harry into the ground. I find it a bit ridiculous we are still so reliant on him after having several transfer windows to get to a situation where we can do without him every now and then.

Im sure Harry was chomping at the bit to play today but you have to be ruthless as he’s our most valuable commodity and if he gets injured I just can’t see us putting up a decent challenge against the big guns in the Prem or the CL.

Wrap the man in cotton wool and let the squad players step up - if they aren’t good enough then we upgrade (although as you say, this is one position we’ve failed to find adequate cover). Can’t be burning Son out either as he’s just as important these days.

It's difficult to be able to get good back up for Kane as anyone coming in will know full well they will be second fiddle to harry and we won't be able to offer them massive wages either, which doesn't help matters.

If we were able to offer huge wages then someone of adequate quality to step in for harry will more likely come in, as they will have the wages to balance the lack of playing time.

I think we could feasibly get someone decent (not world class) on decent (not huge) wages. I'm no scout but there have got to be some young strikers out there who would be interested in a move to a big London club with amazing training facilities, and who can achieve more than the nothing that Janssen did. It's not like we pay peanuts.

Problem is even the mega rich clubs have struggled with their striker backups.

Bony at City, Batshuayi at Chelsea. Even really talented players struggle to perform when almost never playing.

If we are never going to play two up front then I think any striker coming here who can only play up front is going to struggle.

Striker, more than any other position IMO, is about rhythm and confidence so it’s very hard to just come into the side sporadically and perform. Takes a very particular player to do it.

If DL does fork out the reported 200k a week you can bet he'll be expected to play every game and probably wash his car as well.

Moves to No9 in our list of all time record scorers

Has 125 now. Up next is the great Gilly, Alan Gilzean who scored 133 goals for the lillywhites

Good goals again but agree with a game like this he should be rested. I remember Millwall last season people said he should start and went off with ligament damage. Anyway, we won, he scored a brace, he's good so I will let it slide MP ;)

Just want him to break Clive Allen's record of 49 goals for Spurs in a season. Is he at 28 after today?

The constant diversion of praise into talk about his wages is tedious. It's not 'topical' any more, it's lazy.

The rumours are mostly bullshit, yet it seems to form the basis of every conversation about him. He's signed so many new contracts, the manager says he has no price because he's not on the market yet every time he plays well the pundits are talking about selling him.

As we were told last week, he'll probably/definitely sign a new contract in the summer but that will eventually be spun as 'increasing his value for when they sell him.' So boring.

Still only 24, he's going to shatter every single goal scoring record. He will go down in history forever. He will break Greaves record by the 26-27 the way he is going.

Kane is the best player we've had in my lifetime, not the easiest on the eye, but his ruthless efficiency is something I've never seen at Spurs. Klinsmann, Bale, Teddy, Modric, van der Vaart all had their moments, but Kane is just an absolute monster and we're incredibly lucky to have him.

Obvs Ledley is god in my eyes, aside from the above.
