I really don't buy the argument that he's been playing the way he has because he needs a break. There are so many fitness professionals and experts that regularly monitor him I doubt we'd be putting him out all the time if he was exhausted or overly fatigued.

Sure, but this is why Physios, Sports science and coaches work in tandem to create a full picture of the situation. The data might show that he's in peak condition but from watching him play you can tell he's not at his best. There is not metric or device to capture mental fatigue, the staff have rely on asking Kane on a day to day basis " How you do feel etc" Of course being the player that he is, he's going to say " Fine and I'm ready to play etc" as he doesn't want to let us down. Poch needs to take point and make the executive decision to rest him at some point.

Yeah that's true in that mental fatigue is a different issue, but if you're Poch it's not massively easy. Kane had the world cup yes but he's also had a 3 week break afterwards, so are you gonna say to Kane that you think he needs a rest after a rest or are you gonna play him in the hope that he scores a few goals thus raising his confidence and performance level?

There is something up with him performance wise and I don't know where it manifests from but I feel it's not something that will be solved by having him sit out a few games. I'd be pretty surprised if we rested him and there suddenly saw the Kane of old.

He's one of, if not THE most professional player we've got, if he wasn't feeling 100%, he wouldn't play.

Maybe but he is very goal orientated and he wants to get off to a good start goals wise. Even if he was 70-80% he would still play. Plus his contract is filled with bonus incentives so he would want to hit them.

The very fact that he is so professional makes me believe that even if he wasn't feeling 100%, he'd just put his head down and get on with it and not complain.

Agree that he looks off it but I doubt the reason is that he is getting up in night to feed the baby. Pretty sure he will have help with that
im pretty sure him and his lady deal with their baby, i doubt its a Downton Abbey situation

Which is a friendly. It’s no different to us playing in the ICC this summer.
I'd compare it more to being international football's version of the league cup. It's certainly not a friendly tournament, and winning it will count as a proper trophy. I like the concept - it's a good chance for a 'dark horse' nation such as England, Belgium or Croatia to get their hands on a trophy.

Why are you ‘pretty sure’? Is fairly common to have a night nurse, especially if you are a millionaire athlete who needs to sleep

Maybe the night before the game but I expect he’ll want to do his fatherly duties like most dads with a newborn baby.

See your take on it is exactly what they wanted. With the amount of friendlies having become unjustifiable, they’ve rebranded to make it seem important. Same as the difference between Tesco’s own cornflakes and Kellogg’s... same shit different branding, but people buy if. Clearly people are buying this as well.

Not sure why you're so against it. There's absolutely no negative to this, and it's undoubtedly a step up from the aggravatingly frequent friendlies we've seen up to this point.

There's also no need to be so patronising. I haven't 'bought it' - I quite like the idea and we have differing opinions on the concept. You're a better poster than bringing your argument down to that level.

Not intending to be patronising, so apologies if it came off that way, but I genuinely see it as mere material rebranding which is designed to get people to accept something they previously didn’t, including clubs who don’t like their players being knackered out by meaningless friendlies in an already hectic fixture schedule.

There is a huge negative in that top players at top clubs are already playing circa 60 games per season, this will merely stretch them even more thinly and lead to more injuries, reduced overall performance and worse football, and the people who suffer in this instance, as ever, the fans.

Tbh I’m not really sure why everyone is convinced he needs a rest. He had x2 three week breaks last season. That’s like having x2 winter breaks. So he’s had more rest in last 12 months than quite a few others. The thing about kane when he’s slightly off it he can just look really laboured. Where as someone like dele won’t as he’s just much more athletic and lithe.

It doesn't stretch them out any more thinly since the number of games is the same as before. You could even argue it's a benefit in that regard as all these games will be played in Europe - no glamour ties in Singapore or California to contend with. And as a fan I'd always rather watch a game with something riding on it than a friendly. It also gives smaller countries playing well a much more realistic route to a major tournament which is a fantastic idea to make them more competitive, and as LVdB the good but not quite top sides a more realistic route to a trophy. Make no mistake, if England get to the final nobody will be calling it a meaningless friendly.

I half agree but there is something that bothered me in the WC and which I saw again yesterday. In the past when the team broke Kane would be busting a gut to get into the box to benefit from the break. In the WC so many times I'd see someone like Sterling break and Kane just wouldn't be even trying to catch up. Maybe it was tactical?

But yesterday there was a similar moment with Son (I think) getting the ball from Kane near the half way and bursting down the wing. Kane was off camera and I assumed he was racing towards the box just out of shot. But another Spurs player arrived and when the ball was cleared and we saw Kane again he was pretty much in the same place when the move started.

Again, maybe that's tactical. Or maybe its fitness but merely due to a lack of preseason.

But it concerned me.

That said, there have been plenty of times where I thought he looked spent and then he banged in a few goals and looked a totally different player so here's hoping that's the case.
