18 months is a stretch. He finished 2017 incredibly.

I think the injury in March and the subsequent rushed return has hampered him. Only to be expected given how much football he has played, and he generally plays full matches. This is why I think putting him straight back into the team without any real pre-season was a mistake in the opening game. Opponents will obviously target him and try and rough him up but Kane when in good physical condition can better them, but this is a Kane far from a good physical standing. We saw at the WC he was getting a battering from defenders and his influence gradually waned (for me this puts the theory that just playing him into form from the start as flawed). I wouldn't start him at Fulham. I'd back the other players who are far more physically prepared to get the game won, and allow Kane an easy 20-25 minutes or so to get some rhythm.

I certainly wouldn't disagree with you on that. My fear is that so many of the best players are required to play all year around, probably even more so now with the new Nations Cup, that they'll be fcuked by the time they're in their late 20's

I definitely think the guy needs an extended break. It's much more advantageous for the player and the team if he where to get a rest. I know we lack a bit of depth up front but I would love to see Lucas Moura start as a false 9. I think he could cause all sorts of problems for defences in the Premier League with his blistering pace, dribbling & finishing abilty. COYS ❤

In an ideal world he'd have been given until the Liverpool game off. 4 Premier League games, all more than winnable without him bar Man U away and a two week international break to follow. I think Harry could do with a break away from the game to reinvigorate him after so many years of dogged work. Let's hope he doesn't need it and can get through the season with yet another special year so he can kick back and enjoy a full summer in 2019

I've been wondering whether he hasn't been trying to bulk up too much and it's slowing him down too much. Either that or the baby is keeping him awake at night.
I don’t understand people believing this myth that putting on extra muscle slows you down. Extra fat will but not muscle. Who are the most muscular athletes? It’s the 100m sprinters.

Yeah, but he'll get less agile. What you gonna counter that with? Gymnasts? Pah.

Putting on muscle gives you power but slows down your agility which hinders your reactions.

Bullshit.

He was fucking immense against Columbia.

He was also for me our best player in the group stages. Great all round play against Tunisia & had the nerve to finish his chances when they came his way. Panama then ended up being a cakewalk but Kane made sure of it with a pair of ruthless penalties. All this stuff about him having an underwhelming tournament is being massively overstated, because people remember the missed chances against Croatia where by all accounts he was carrying a knock, and is probably still getting back to full fitness.

I fancy him to grab a couple Saturday. He’ll be desperate to get the August monkey off his back.

If I was Poch I would have given him an extra fortnight off and then a proper pre-season and not used him until after the international break. He looks totally broken to me right now. Nowhere near his 'pre-ankle-injury' best. Just a shame we didn't buy anyone else to take the pressure off him with Son also absent in this period, although I don't think starting Llorente (who has been pretty sharp in pre-season) ahead of Kane last week would have made much difference.

So I was listening to The Wombats song This is Not A Party, and the chorus goes

This is not a party; it's a hurricane.
This is not a party; it's a hurricane.
And I don't really care, and I'm never gonna change.
This is not a party; it's a hurricane.

starts about 34 seconds in the video below

We could sing

Lets all have a party, we've got Harry Kane,
Lets all have a party, we've got Harry Kane.
He scores when he wants, he's the King of White Hart Lane,
Lets all have a party, we've got Harry Kane.

I'm not sure I 100% buy into 'he might be tired and rushed back too son from injury'. Granted, it could be a contributing factor to a slight downtown in form. But there's a certain sluggishness to his play that's crept in... which to my untrained eye, seems to come into effect after he's been on the field for 50 or more minutes. He seems to start games fairly sharp. But then fades a little bit. That could come down to a variety of factors... including sleep and diet. He has a young family that could be impacting sleep... and who knows about diet. But there is no denying that he hasn't been the same since March. Hopefully he will sit out the England friendlies in September, and get a bit more rest and can more closely evaluate what might be impacting that extra 5% he seems to be lacking.

Regardless, he's brilliant and is probably more self-critical than most. He'll know what needs to happen and will unquestionably play back into form again. Injury notwithstanding, I fully expect he'll score between 25-30 goals this year again, across all comps.

After last night, Harry needs one more to go level with Defoe in 5th on our all time scorers list. Realistic to expect him to be above Cliff Jones by the end of the season:
3. Martin Chivers 367 174
4. Cliff Jones 378 159
5. Jermain Defoe 363 143
6. Harry Kane 216 142
3rd might be a push for this season

Amazing interview last night. He mentioned us going for the Title 3 or 4 times - its clear the players actually believe they are contenders and for me that is a big part of the battle right there.

He should be looking to improve on his 41 goals from last season, which would see him edge comfortably ahead of Martin Chivers in third place.

Barring any injuries or loss of form, it is also very likely he will be 13th in the all time premier league scorers come the end of the season. He's on 110, 13th is currently Hasselbaink on 127. I think top 10 is out of reach for this season. Not bad for our one season wonder.

Good point, think I was thinking 30+ league goals rather than overall there. Decent return in the CL and a few cup goals and third will come along before he is 26.

Was awful first half - like really shit but you know what? No matter how off form or whatever, you fucking play him.

What really demonstrated this was you had Lukaku who should have scored with his chance but Kane put his more difficult chance away - it epitomised just how great and clinical he is.
