We can’t just blame England. We have flogged Harry over the last few years, often playing him in cup games against lower league opposition because we didn’t have enough faith in failed purchases like Jansen and Llorente. He may have wanted to play constantly, but sometimes a player needs protecting from himself and for his own good and the team in the long term.

I love Son, but I still maintain he’s not a direct replacement for Harry, and the management at Spurs obviously think so, otherwise they wouldn’t have signed the other strikers.

It might not be easy, but we have failed to add to the squad to give him the odd rest and breaks he probably needed at various times over the last few seasons.

Hopefully he’ll be back to the player we know and is not suffering from mental and physical burn out.

The problem Poch has if he rests him is if we lose he will get asked why didn’t kane play. Although now with the recent coverage maybe he has an excuse.

Or take him off before the end of matches. Trouble is, we have to be in a commanding position to do so.

Once this weekend is over it should theoretically be easier because we will have Son back as an option. The league games we have are Brighton and Huddersfield away, surely we have confidence in the squad to get results in both those games without Kane playing 90 minutes in both?

Problem is Son is going to be knackered after his schedule recently. Not to mention the mental and emotional energy that his time with South Korea has probably taken out of him considering the added pressure surrounding that tournament.

We would have known all this though, and what the World Cup may have taken out of our players, and the fitness issues we have in CM.

That's why despite a decent start and a great result at Old Trafford, no one can convince me that sitting on our hands in the transfer market was anything other than a mistake. And I'll feel the same even if we turn over Liverpool on Saturday. It's a long old season, and with such a demanding CL group we need a squad firing on all cylinders, not one nursing players through fatigue and fitness issues.

It’s all about options.

We’ve gambled on having enough.

There’s definitely an opportunity after inter before Barca for a 2 week break. But will that really make much difference, I mean he did have 3 weeks after the World Cup. In reality he probably needs 6 weeks for it to make any difference.

The problem is that Kane on form operates at a level way above most strikers on the planet. His goalscoring record over the last few seasons is in the Messi and Ronaldo category so like them he has no direct replacement. An 80% Kane can still turn a game so I understand playing him constantly. Perhaps if Lamela had been fit Harry might have had a rest but without him and Son we are light in the forward area. However like most people I think he needs a rest and having Son back in the squad does mean we can alter our tactics to accommodate no Kane

We don't need a direct replacement for Harry, we look more fluid with Son or another player up front who runs the channels which is a reason I suspect that we weren't been in desperate need to find a like for like replacement for Kane this summer.

Yeah quite possibly the coaching staff have now come to this opinion.

My point was though that they did think we needed a direct replacement before as they bought two of them. And failed miserably. Which imo has had a direct influence on Kane’s current condition.

The problem is more mental than physical I believe. Harry Kane is fatigued because he hasn't had a mental break from football for 18 months and the injury layoff did not help because he was rushing to get back to Fitness.

He seems to be very much the type of player who loves to prove people wrong. He could just as easily reset his mind set and come back to the Liverpool game with renewed belief and determination.

I agree but we won’t, he’ll start every game.

If that happens we have to go back in for Martial in January as he (and the rest of the World Cup players) will be proper fucked by then.

Can anybody actually remember the last time he had a really good game? Not just scoring, but an overall world class performance that warrants the label of world class striker? Particularly in big games.

I love him but I do think he's suffering from being overhyped beyond belief. No doubt he's tired as well but there's a lot of players with a lot more miles who don't go missing as often as he does.
