This is one of those «if you have to ask, you'll never know» things. You have to know your football to rate him.

Yes, I am very smart and all that.

Unfortunately...he was way out of his depth against far superior players. A lot of work to do...he also wasn't the only one.

It's not based off one game, do I need to remind you and everyone else how shambolic Winks was last season around September time when he was the worst player on the pitch against league one opposition?

He put in a decent performance away at Madrid which I dare say has been over hyped beyond belief since.

So 3 good games against Madrid and Juve I think and it was decent and overhyped shouldn't be judged on that. a poor game against League 1 opposition, I'm pretty sure a lot of others did too, and it's enough evidence to say he's not good enough.

I think Winks highest potentiialy is a regular or good players for a Top 6 club which is a good achievement and if gets to that level we will have done well.

Are we expecting too much from Winks?
I think we are, considering how long it has taken him to get back from his injury problems. A handful of games and some regular time in the starting eleven is probably the time to pass judgement. Might help if the other ten players around him were settled too.

A fit Wanyama and Winks is our best pairing now IMO.

And we should definitely be playing them as a two whichever combination we use.

Any insider info on where each player is on fitness (winks seems to be in a managing chronic situation)

Is it though? If he'd dominated the midfield people would be raving about him. You can allow for context (which I did in my last post) but if he can take the good then it's only fair he can take the bad as well. Remember, he has played in every game this season except for Newcastle.
Yeah, but you have to allow for him getting a run of games to build his fitness and confidence after so long out.

I think winks seemed uncomfortable within a 3, although maybe it was the chemistry on Saturday. I had the same thought... To put wanyama and winks as the two, to chase the game. Going forward I remember them working well in pre season last, and would like to see these as a 2.

I also think he was uncomfortable being on the left.

The lad is class. It was his first start in aeons. On top of that our midfield was all wrong on Saturday, and has been all season so far.

Why are Spurs fans turning into such ****s after 2 bad games these days?

This is what I like to read.

Youth players who also support and love the team show more passion than ones you’ve bought in externally, let’s hope he can get back to top form now.

People in this thread saying he’s never been good enough are being silly billys, he has the talent it’s just up to him whether he shows it.

I'm sure when he's regularly shining for both spurs and England during the next 8 months those same people will be either conspicuous by their absence or trying and failing to justify their knee jerking somehow

Agreed - Sign of the times i'm afraid. Social media heightens visibility of the knee-jerking but in my view the overall lack of perspective and sense behind fan opinion is increasing. Not just with us but across the board.

I hate to keep harking back to when we were properly shit but this experience seems to be continually lacking from people's perspectives on our play and our players.

2 poor games does not make a season and a difficult start for Winks after long term injury issues is also nothing to judge him on. He still shows a lot of positivity in his play and needs a full uninterrupted season to really show us what he's capable of again, for the time being patience and perspective are needed in healthy measure.

Can’t judge Winks until he has run of games to get his fitness up and hopefully he’ll be played in a more settle midfield two.
