Cliche alert...

Him and Lamela have been like new signings this season. Winks is a massive prospect, and he’s really putting himself about and making a mark in games. Can see why he got given a big squad number this year now.

I do like him in the number 8 shirt.

Next for me hopefully in next couple of years is Skipp in number 4 shirt... *fingers crossed*.

He has absolutely everything to become one of the best in his position. An increased passing range, a bit more creativity and ingenuity and he’s there. Thank god he’s stepped up too because I honestly think Dembele Dier and Wanyama are finished.

No, he doesn't play like either of them, he has a more dynamic style.

I can see some similarities. Pirlo and Carrick had years to develop into top quality players and Winks has only just started. Compare him to either at the same age as he is now and he's not that far off.

Why do we? The best teams set up to play their own game not worry about stopping the opposition. I'm all for Winks playing every game but the constant change of formation is far more a hindrance than it is helpful imo.
sigh....constant change might have something to do with shocking injury list, player fitness management and games seemingly every few days.

If he can manage the fitness/ankle etc. he will be starter for club and country in CM by the end of the season and years to come

Dembele and wanyama possibly, though wouldnt totally write off Vic .

But including dier is harsh, Mr consistent. Always a solid base for us in controlling midfield

It’s gonna be interesting where poch and Southgate play him. For me the deep lying role is his position. Actually think Southgate is a bit braver than pochettino and may influence the scenario if he plays him there. An England 3 of dele winks Barkley could be very nice.

He was a one man midfield last night, i think he is our best center mid on form atm, i know the rest are all injured but he was bloody good last night.

Unfortunately I still stand by the assessment I have seen him play many more poor games for Spurs than good ones. Injuries or not. He reserves his best performances for the CL.

For me he still has it all to prove in the PL that he is a certain starter for us and is good enough to be a long term solution. He has the talent and potential for sure but its upto him to show it consistently. If he carries on improving I'll change my opinion but it's still early days.

i think your wrong i think he is amazing player just needs a run of games to find his rhythm and a more settled team around him.

Calling Winks an amazing player is more hyperbolic than me saying he still has to prove himself over a consistent period of time.

I know we all like to overrate our own players but Winks hasn't really accomplished much in a Spurs shirt to date and when it comes to amazing players Spurs or otherwise...Winks isn't in that conversation.

Lets come back to this at the end of the season when he's shown he can deliver consistently.

If he puts in more performances like last night consistently then yes we would have an amazing player on our hands.

Players of his age, especially central midfielders, are very rarely consistent, but he is better than most I’ve seen.
His ball retention is extremely impressive and I’d argue that’s a fair gauge of consistency for his role.

Added to the fact that his last 18 months have been totally disrupted by injuries, I think he’s doing extremely well. Given an injury-free run, he’ll prove to be very worthy of his place in the team.

When you consider how serious his injury was and how much we are now relying on him, he's doing remarkably well.

He’s really becoming a player now. Poch asked him to play more defensive last night, which isn’t really his game and he did well.

I understand where your coming from. There’s no getting away from the fact he’s our best central midfielder at the moment though.

I would like to say respectfully that that is just not true.

Seems to have found his confidence and acceleration in tight spaces is really great to see, seems to have lots of tools to be a very very good all round CM. If you partner this guy with a N'Dombele or Doucoure. That could be an exceptional CM two. With Dier, Skipp, Onomah and a resurgent Sissoko in reserve.

He's currently holding it together for us in the middle of the park at a fairly young age, just imagine him with a CM partner, building a relationship in there with someone who complements him and they can grow together. Really would love us to go all out for a CM partner for Winks. Dembele (who i'm a huge fan) is in his last season and Wanyama is done unfortunately.

His passing vision is the weakest part of his game at the moment, and that's what Pirlo and Carrick was masters at. He showed some glimpses of it last night, but it's still a work in progress as he learns his craft.

I totally disagree with that. I think his passing is one of his best attributes. Especially his judgement on weight of the pass.

His weakest part of his game for me is his physicality. In terms of when to engage in a physical battle and when to avoid and lay the ball off. Very muvh like Modric when he first arrived.

Would love to see modric back at spurs for a year or two if the terms were right winks would benefit from it having such a class act about.

Really, he’s never going to be as physical as Dembele or Wanyama, that’s just a matter of size and genetics. But his passing is the area of his game where he can improve the most.

He’s ultra conservative most of the time, and that’s fine in terms of ball retention, but he needs to pick times when to pass through the lines and take risks. But I think that will come with time, and experience.
