Thinking about next season I go backwards and forwards whether he is really good enough to be CM in a team with CL aspirations. For the large part he looks a very nice player neat and tidy and easy on the eye. My real quandary is if he is playing the deep role it’s the trade off with a player like Dier. If you’re playing winks in the deep role you have to accept you will lose a bit defensively over someone like Dier. But to compensate for that he needs to move the ball quickly and be more creative than Dier. And in the last 2 games he simply hasn’t. So your losing the defensive aspect of a Dier without any real progressive benefit. So you may as well just play Dier and be more solid. Will be interesting what poch does when Dier is fit, but it does now feel winks is first choice in that role. It’s really hard not to judge him with rose tinted specs, but right now he’s just a little bit short of what’s required imo.

I'm not convinced at all. He'd be a great squad player. Not a good enough starter for a title winning team. Everyone loves him and Sissoko but the center of the pitch is such a glaring weakness still.

This is Winks first real season as a regular in the team. I think he’s done very well considering. If you had said at the start of the season our midfield for the majority would have been Winks and Sissoko you’d have just laughed. We obviously need to sign a top class box to box midfielder this summer. Winks has shown at the highest level he has the ability. I’d be more than happy with Winks as the deep lying midfielder.

You say that about Sissoko but he was head and shoulders our best player last night and has been on countless occasions. Last night wasn’t lost in midfield, at no point in that game did Chelsea dominate us. The game was lost with two woeful bits of defending and some inept attacking play , exactly like Burnley.

If you want to continue with Sissoko in the lineup thats great, but I don't expect to win any trophies while he is a game in, game out starter.

I watched most of the first half and then I couldn't watch the rest but it looked like we were being over run for most of that.

Winks and Sissoko are probably 7/10 players at the moment in the big picture. If we want to win PL we probably need 8/10 or 9/10 players but that’s gonna cost us £100-150m for 2. Hopefully we get one new CM in summer and find right blend with winks sissoko or Dier.

Just behind Sanchez last night for MOTM

With the 'absence' of Eriksen again he’s been pretty much holding that side together

Funnily enough Poch didn’t sub him last night!!!!

It's a shame that shot of his that hit the bar didn't go in. If Winks is going to take the next step as a CM, he has to offer a bit more going forward in my opinion. If you look at City and Liverpool, they have so much more goal threat from the middle than we do.

Not a single assist this season. Seems almost impossible.

Liverpool have absolutely no goal threat from midfield at all.

Harry needs a proper defensive midfield partner that gives him a freedom to get further forward more often. As good as Sissoko has been he still doesnt offer a great balance to the side and Winks always needs to be more central and deep.

Fabinho alone has as many goals + assists as Winks & Sissoko. James Milner has 8 goal contributions.

...and Wijnaldum has actually scored 20 goals since coming to the PL. And Keita scored plenty in the Bundesliga. (31 goals in 117 matches)

I'm not saying Liverpools CM's are world class but they have much more goals in them than any CM we currently have.

We really miss Dembeles ability to beat the lines in midfield and create space for us with gliding runs.

It used to be such a useful tool in breaking teams down.

Winks and a Sissoko are definitely squad players. Sissoko is probably my player of the year but it’s still obvious he’s not got the overall ability we need at CM on the ball.

Winks. I just don’t think he offers enough. Neat and tidy but we need more.

Winks has pretty much been a one man midfield this season. He’s be excellent mostly and easily good enough to be in our midfield.

Now that’s nonesense. Sissoko has been better but he still hides and still can’t pass.

If you can’t see what winks has done then I’d rather you not quote me again

The over rating of Winks is unreal. He’s a decent player but he isn’t the second coming of Christ and he’s not been a one man midfield.

Sissoko has EASILY had the better season than Winks. Sissoko has been performing from the first day of the season and has created goals and done excellently defensively DESPITE his limitations.

How can you say Sissoko hides? He’s one of the only players to stand up and be counted this season. Honestly, when you read stuff like that, I’m afraid I can’t take your opinion about Winks too seriously.

Winks is definitely very upgradeable in our team. He’s neat and tidy and that’s all you can really say about him. That’s not really enough is it.
