Disagree that he's not ready to play there. Yes the U20 is a lower level, but he's shown it's his best position
Players 'showing' their best position now constitute selection for a title challenging premier league club? Sure.

He'd also be far better in CM than Sissoko.
Based on nothing but a U20 tournament . . .

Using your logic it's amazing that youngsters like Winks get a game in the middle.
Using your logic, it's amazing we haven't played our entire academy at Premier League level, after all, it's safe to say they've all 'shown' their best position.

Winks proved himself in pre-season & cup games games before being given sustained opportunity at the top level; Onomah can do the same before we even begin to consider him for Premier League/Champions League games.

The point is that you need to give him games to prove himself. It seems Poch rates him as he hasn't sent him out on loan so he needs chances to get better.

i hope this will be the year, he is 12 months younger than Winks, so hopefully has a season like Harry just had, minus the injury.

You have got this soooo wrong. Maybe re-read the thread and work out what I was saying. We're talking about a young player who is potentially 6th choice for a CM role, behind Wanyama, Dembele, Dier, Winks, and Alli. I responded to a poster saying Sissoko could be considered for CM to say that he might be off but that Onomah should be considered as a CM following his impressive displays in the U20 world cup. And they were impressive displays. He looked very assured, strong in the tackle, calm in possession and mature in position. Seeing as we have a manager who invests a lot of time in developing youth and getting them into the first team we would be mad not to see what we can do with Onomah in CM.

Based on nothing but a U20 tournament . . .

Based on 13 appearances over the last 3 years for us and the U20 World Cup. He also has played in 2 CL games and 7 Europa league games for us. It is evident that CM is his best / natural position

I'm not sure what you are trying to achieve with that statement. I expect us to play Harry Kane as a forward, Wnks as a CM and Walker-Peters as a right back. I also expect us to play Onomah as a CM - seeing as that is his best position - If deemed good enough by the manager to be in the match day squad.

Winks proved himself in pre-season & cup games games before being given sustained opportunity at the top level; Onomah can do the same before we even begin to consider him for Premier League/Champions League games.

Really? Winks only made 2 first team appearances before last season, both in the Europa League as subs. When exactly did he prove himself? Apply your logic a year ago and you'd have laughed at Winks being considered for a game. I think what you are saying is that Onomah must play well in a pre-season in CM before being considered to play in that position for the first team and I agree with that statement. And I hope he gets a chance as we was truly magnificent in the U20 world cup. If we have a league cup game and want to rest Dembele and Wanyama I hope we play Onomah.

Sure, but he can start at cup level. He shouldn't be considered for a starting role in the premier league, especially in an important position like midfield, until at very least he shows he can do it against senior opposition. People are getting way too hyped over a U20 world cup.

The backpedaling in this post is unreal. You're actually using his minimal, ineffectual appearances for us to justify the notion he's a "far better CM than Sissoko", who actually has a lot of experience in that position? Having a laugh.

All aboard the overhype train; academy player bosses a bunch of 19 year olds, must be the new Scholes.

I 100% love him, but again I am not sure how good he is going to be, Think he will gain so much from having scotty parker back at the club as that's the player he reminds me of most.

Not sure if we can risk it for a season giving Winks the minutes we could give to a new centre midfield signing or not.

Special talent but I think the way we need to look at is he champions league quality yet?

I think he has shown he has enough technical ability to step up and play in the champions league and Premier League consistently. What I like is he has the aggression and will to win that is required to play at the higher level.

I think he will be a superb player for us.

'Risk'? Seriously? He was fantastic in pretty much every appearance. How is he going to become Champions League quality if we don't play him.

This.

He has proved himself at every opportunity - friendlies, cup matches, champions league and league starts. And each time he was one of the best players on the pitch. I don't see what more he has to do. Hopefully with more starts next season he will get even better. This is why he such an exciting prospect.

8 or 14 fit Winks, 14 isn't ready yet though depending on N'koudou's future.
Guess it depend on who we sign too, there aren't that many available numbers.
Someone like Barkley or Lemar probably doesn't want 32 on their back

6, 8, most probably 16 as presuming Trippier will switch to 2, 18, 21, 22 and 24 are available so we've got quite a few numbers available? (and hopefully 17 should become available shortly too :playful:).

I'd really like Winks to take 8 but failing that 24 would be a good number for him, 29 should be a forward like Sterling for me.

I'm pretty sure he's ruled out taking 40 lol and wouldn't want him too anyways as don't like first teamers to have number outside top 25 (26 is also cool for a centre back but for us that number is sacred and shall remain vacant for now).

I hope he takes the number 6 shirt personally, suits him, he's the tempo setter in midfield

Winks is a 100% part of the starting rotation now, and can be used in any game Poch sees fit, without any doubt now. I'm surprise anyone sees it any other way, he's scarcely ever had a bad performance for us and was used in a large number of pressure situations last season.

Totally agree ,even trusted him enough to bring him on for last 25 mins for dembele against chels, which at that time was our biggest game of the season.

Sissoko was great at Euro 2016, yet mediocre in the Premier League. How does Onomah performing well in a few matches at U20 level prove he is ready to compete for a title challenging Premier League team? He will have to prove himself in preseason and really excel at any brief opportunities he gets during the season.

I don't want to make this about Sissoko, but he had a couple of 30 min cameos in a central attacking position in Euro 2016 and impressed with his aggressive running that broke defensive lines. I am talking about Onomah, and how he showed repeatedly in the recent U20 tournament that he is a much better CM than he is as an attacking wide player. How Onomah showed intelligent positional sense and calmness in possession. How his future is as a CM. I also am interested to see how Poch could develop him there. Note that I also am acknowledging that there is at least 5 players in front of him for one of the 2 x CM positions in Poch's 3-4-2-1 formation we now seem to favour, and that he would have to impress in cup games or pre-season friendlies to even be a bench choice for CM.

'Ridiculous shit' that you're clearly incapable of disputing. You're just stupid.

Are you 12 years old? Who do you think you are? You're not allowed to think Onomah hasn't proved himself for us.
