As good as Dembele is at dribbling, passing the ball forward quickly will always be more efficient for breaking teams down. Winks is a stunner, our very own Paul Schoales.

The ball can travel much faster than anyone can run. It follows that quick passing is more likely to be able to break teams down than running at them with it. That said, of course there are times when running at them can cause havoc and work when trying quick passes doesn't work, but the principle holds good.

When we last played Real in 2011 at the Lane, Harry Winks was one of the flag bearers.
Six years later he's helping to pull them apart at Wembley.

Very mature performance yet again. He was quietly very good which is all we need him to do. Set up 2 goals as well through very precise passes.

However, saying he bossed Modric and Kroos is a bit of an overstatement. He was very good but luka was imaculate yet again. Kroos is a bit down on form but his passing on either foot is so good. I think winksy held his own but I'd argue that modric was the second best player on the pitch behind dele.

Always see the academy players walking around and it's funny how no one realises there are potential first teamers around. Seen Walcott, Roles the other day and Skipp with his dad

Just saw that segment too on the 10pm news! Gave me goosebumps; feel like we're in a watershed moment where the media and opposing fans finally recognise us as one of the best teams in Europe

Just caught up on a few interviews with him, he seems like a very down to earth kid, as laid back as he takes his game - very calm, very level.

Thing that impresses me, and something i saw early in the (reruns) of the Madrid game, it was clear he had been told; if you get the ball and you can't move it forward, give it straight back to the defenders. Don't even let Modric or Kroos near that ball and, every time he picked up the ball, he looked around and did exactly what was needed. Yes, he played backwards and sideways a lot but that's very much part of his job playing where he does. When he had space to see things develop with no-one closing him down, when he had chances to get the ball forward - down the flank for Eriksen through about four midfielders, or that amazing long ball to Trips to set up Alli - he took them in a heartbeat.

He's got confidence, composure, not afraid to play for possession and can pick out some stellar passes, but barely anyone outside the club knew who he was before he turned 20 - love our academy, and loving seeing Winks' name on the team sheet.

Tottenham’s Harry Winks would be in England’s World Cup team if Gareth Southgate named his XI now, says Danny Murphy

Name me a better English midfielder than Harry Winks. I do not see anyone in the Premier League who is superior to him right now and I believe he can become one of the finest midfielders this country has seen.

If Gareth Southgate picked his starting XI for the World Cup today, then Winks would be in it. You might say Jordan Henderson, of Liverpool, is more experienced and at least as athletic, but Winks is more creative. So you can play them together.

He is miles ahead of other young English midfielders, like Nathaniel Chalobah at Watford and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who is on loan at Crystal Palace from Chelsea. I have been watching him closely and I was at Wembley to see Tottenham beat Real Madrid 3-1 this week.

I’d advise you to study Winks’ involvement in Tottenham’s third goal, scored by Christian Eriksen. He made a run upfield as Spurs broke but did not receive the ball. He then ran back, overtaking Moussa Sissoko on his way, to try to cut out Madrid’s next attack. So when he eventually took possession on the edge of his own penalty area, he was tired and it would have been easy to play the wrong pass at the wrong time.

Not Winks. He looked up and hit a perfect sidefoot pass to Dele Alli. Alli then picked out Harry Kane, whose square ball found the run of Eriksen and it was soon 3-0. That is what impresses me most about Winks - his calmness under pressure.

Look at the first goal, too. It was a great ball from Winks to pick out Kieran Trippier, who supplied the cross for Alli to score. Yet Winks was shaping to play a square pass, until he saw Trippier on the move and realised he had to change his plan. He executed it perfectly.

When I was making my way, I would try to play killer passes too often, but Winks approaches things differently.

He plays sensibly to get into the game and starts trying more passes as time ticks by. It remains to be seen whether he nails down one role, or whether he continues to operate in different ones - either in the holding position or as more of an attacking option.

Winks, Alli and Kane are three gems that Tottenham and England can build around. It certainly won’t be easy for Palace to stop them but they played well against Chelsea and West Ham.

If they can show that sort of spirit, they can cause Spurs problems.

I’m really not sure why people compare him to wilshere. They really aren’t the same player.Winks is much more like a carrick type player. And wilshere is more attacking.See no reason if wilshere really found some form they couldn’t play in same team.Weird the English mentality that’s it’s unthinkable to have 2 technically good players in same team. Didn’t do Spain any harm.Sayin that wilshere assisting Kane would seem so wrong lol.

Amazing how we have not 1 but 2, 'one of own ours' in the squad, this really is a golden age. You can tell how much the 2 Harry's love this club, you can't buy that kinda passion.

Be great if Tanganga came through at CB.So we’d have 3 going through spine of team.Tbh If KWP tanganga Onomah skipp edwards were all 1st squad in 2/3 years I wouldn’t be surprised. We could easily field a PL team with 5 of our own in a couple of years.
