Only just noticed these number changes, good luck to them both, I’ve missed seeing our no.8 shirt on the pitch! Good on ya Winks!

We need big seasons from one or both of he and/or Onomah

In case it hasn't been mentioned here before (I'm not sure it has) we're light in CM

Does anyone know how far from fitness he is?

Fair play to Winks in securing such a privileged shirt number this season. Personally I'd have preferred him keeping his old number as it does put a little bit of unnecessary pressure on the lad but it's only a number on the back of a shirt and he does love the club so congrats on getting the same shirt the likes of Gazza wore for us. Let's hope he stamps his mark on it

I imagine he's too young to feel the gravitas of gazza wearing the shirt, I imagine the conversation went; "Harry you know Gazza used to don this number" "Ah cool"

I'd still prefer to see Grealish in such a shirt but we didn't get it over the line and a Spurs kid gets to don it so fair play to him. Let's hope Winksy kicks on this year and really takes his game to a level that makes him a mainstay in the team

Remember when Kane took 10? and look how good he did that 2015/16 season.

I think we'll see the making of Winks this year, he obviously backs his ability to take #8

Except Winks is a die hard Yiddo!

Probably grown up watching clips of Gazzas 91 free kick

And his career with us went downwards after he got it. It's cursed by Paulinho.
You need one good player to break it!
#6 Huddlestone, Parker, Chiriches, Bentaleb then Sanchez
But I wonder whether Winks would have got the number if it wasn’t us failing to sign Grealish or another Midfielder?

The rumours of Winks taking the number 8 shirt have been going around for a little while

The point I was making in my post above is that the cause and effect went the other way. We weren't especially fussed about signing Grealish because we already have Winks.

Let's just get this into perspective. Jack Grealish is a promising midfielder who has played at Championship level. Harry Winks has helped us to dominate midfield in Champions League matches against Real Madrid. Winks is the one with the pedigree and the experience.

Yeah I would have personally given it to him regardless of whether we signed anyone as he's one of our own and plays the number 8 box to box midfielder type role.

Grealish or any of the other players we could have signed would have had to settle for a lower number for me.

Just hope that the knock his confidence took last season after coming back from injury is long forgotten, and he can pick up from where he left off pre injury (when they were talking about him as a starter for England at the WC)

offers us something our other CM's don't; quick use of the ball, constant movement and ability to carry the ball past opponents in tight areas. Lets hope we can get him on the pitch ASAP.
