Watched the match again - and enjoyed it all over again.

Winks really shone second half. I think he's going to be big for us.

However he does put himself in harm's way a lot - all the players do. I just hope he doesn't pick up another injury.

This playing through the pain thing - you wouldn't know it.

Top fella.

Let’s not sugar coat it, he was absolutely useless for the majority of the game, and brilliant for 15 minutes.

Needs to be the 15 minute Harry Winks in future if he is going to make it here or anywhere.
Think Messi had a word with Winks at half time along the lines of ‘Look Harry, it’s no point chasing me around all game asking for my autograph - you can stand in line with all the other ball boys after the game’.

strongly disagree....poor first half, looked nervous and a v good second half against a fantastic team that were seriously up for it.

He is absolutely the solution for club and country long term if he can:
1. stay fit
2. keep level headed and work hard
3. show the desire to keep improving that we have seen so far from him

It amazes me how many want to give Winks such faint praise and then talk up others of a comparable age inside and outside the club....love the lad

Fair enough. I probably give him too much of a hard time, buts it’s because he has so much talent and just wish he showed us more often that he has the bollocks to use it properly.

So many players who can ‘pick a pass’ come and go after getting comparisons to xavi and Iniesta, but what makes those two players so great is their reading of the game, and their bravery to constantly take the most incisive and difficult option with the confidence to pull it off.

I see winks take the easy route far too often, but once his blood heats up (like it did vs Barça) he shows that he has the ability. He needs to play like that for 90 mins every game.

Comparisons to Xavi or Iniesta are not helpful, we shouldn't put ridiculous expectations on the lad. He has got some talents, here's hoping he can stay fit so that in a few years time other teams' fans will be comparing their bright new prospects to the legendary Harry Winks!

You do realise you're talking about a player who's only started 13 Premier League games in his life and is only just back from a very serious injury?

disagree with that....his potential is to play a starring role against the very best sides in the world...as he has shown.
whether he gets there is down to him, Poch and luck (injuries etc)

Being a top 6 regular player is by no means a bad thing. That's like most of our top players, Son, Lamela etc. none of these players are World Class but are very good players. If he does that he will be quality, I haven't seen anything in him to suggest he would be a World Class player, but if he gets to that level would be quality.

see where you are coming from but have to consider that for him the confidence in his play is probably connected to confidence in his body after serious injuries in the last season or so

his left foot is hit and miss with too many giveaways, I think without playing as one-footed as Alli he will need to use the outside of his right boot more to squeeze the ball forward. Modric was/is an absolute master at working the angles with just his right. Winksy should also dribble more, especially once he's through the press, and commit defenders, not lay it off and run into a cul de sac. Will come with experience and belief, hopefully.

I thought he was rather average. It's nice to see him run with the ball but he doesn't play the right pass, or the most threatening pass and it's a bit tedious to watch. Needs to play it forward more often to be able to play his role to the required standard.

The amount of times he and Dier let the ball come to a complete stop in midfield kills the rhythm of the game.

Now he has to take a page off the other Harry. He has to stay behind after training and work on his left peg. He would have created a few goal chances today had he been able to cross with his left.

I think the last 2 games have at least convinced me he will get back to his best of last season. Also feel pretty confident he is good enough to be at least our back up CM. But definitely need to see more that he’s good enough to be CM in a title challenging team. I don’t think it’s impossible you can kind of see it’s there. But agree he needs to start effecting the game more with assists and maybe the odd goal.

If what you say were true, I think he just needs games. He's been out for sooo long and I think he needs a good run to find his rhythm. Like others have said, you can see there's something there that our other CM/DMs don't have.

That Arthur guy at Barca is what Winks should become I think... same age and hopefully Winks could become a similar type of player - they definitely have very similar styles and positioning.
