Has to play the deep role over Dier just offers so much more. Might lose a bit defensively but it’s worth it.

Fantastic performance from Winks tonight, this lad is the complete midfielder already and if he can stay relatively injury free then, with experiance, has all the tools needed to become a very special player.

He has just to add one more tool. Should tag up the other Harry and improve his shooting.

Hows his form for you?

Much better but he put in a one or two of his best performances of his career in the group stages of the CL last season and I was hailing him as Modric reincarnated, and then proceeded to play like utter rubbish for the remainder of 2017 before getting injured again. City away and even against league one opposition in the domestic cup he was the worst player on the pitch and rightfully got hooked he was so bad.

I am liking what I am seeing from him currently, but I want to see him put an actual run of form where he demonstrates some consistency over more than 3 or 4 games. He always seems to reserve his best performances for the CL. Yet to see him really do what he did tonight in the PL at all, which is strange.

Look, CM is our biggest problem area, so if Winks can step up I'll be delighted because we literally have no one else.

He played very well every time he was given the opportunity for about a season and a half. Then injured his ankle vs. Palace in the League game after the home game against Real Madrid. After that he was basically playing while injured, so I think those poor performances should be seen in light of that.

I'm just happy he's starting to look like his old self again.

Cliche alert...

Him and Lamela have been like new signings this season. Winks is a massive prospect, and he’s really putting himself about and making a mark in games. Can see why he got given a big squad number this year now.

You could say the same about Modric. Just saying.

Modric has though I would say - scores some crackers.

Winks does look like a cool character in CM.. it's just who partners him now... and for us to be asking that question shows how bad the summer was.

Yea that's because injuries halted his progress, he hurt his ankle just after the CL match and took time to get back to normal levels, same for the FA cup match he wasn't 100% fit.

As you said he needs a run in the team so I don't understand why you're judging him favorably on the back of 1 CL match then call him rubbish off the the back of isolated matches?

The fact he's already looking like a big game player is such a good sign, he never shirks a big occasion and actually seems to thrive on it.

Unfortunately I still stand by the assessment I have seen him play many more poor games for Spurs than good ones. Injuries or not. He reserves his best performances for the CL.

For me he still has it all to prove in the PL that he is a certain starter for us and is good enough to be a long term solution. He has the talent and potential for sure but its upto him to show it consistently. If he carries on improving I'll change my opinion but it's still early days.

Agreed. He's got a great mentality and his reading of the game will just get better and better. All the ingredients to become a club legend. Fingers crossed.

By playing as a deep lying midfielder, is he the closest thing to Andre Pirlo that we and England have had since Michael Carrick?

He's more Scott Parker than Pirlo and that not intended to be a slight on Parker or Winks.

His passing vision is the weakest part of his game at the moment, and that's what Pirlo and Carrick was masters at. He showed some glimpses of it last night, but it's still a work in progress as he learns his craft.
