I agree , I was just hoping for another Harry Kane type product who is just unreal.

Makes you wonder how Barcelona produce so many world class talents so effortlessly season after season

If Spurs had Dembele holding, 3 Harry Winks in front of him, Dele in front of the 3 Winks, and Kane up top; we'd be unstoppable.

I think Winks missed a trick when he didn't ask for squad number 40. Lads got no sense of humour....

My point is that Winks is very good on the ball without excelling at winning the ball or creating chances. He needs others like him around him to be effective. Having said that the improvement in Sissoko is astonishing. Poch is a genius.

This is his role though, instructed by Poch. Imo.
I don't see it like that because otherwise we're playing with essentially 3 defensive midfielders. Sissoko will make a few runs but he isn't going to offer much else offensively. 70% of the offensive capability needs to come from winks in a midfield containing those 3.

I think we vastly overrate him if I’m honest,

He reminds me of the o’shea etc of united title winning teams not good enough for the matches vs top 6 but is good enough for the other teams.

Just a jack of all trades master of none a poor Scott Parker in a sense

This isn’t a dig at winks it just reality I don’t see him ever being in the top 50 centre mids in the world.

Would be a star in average teams

Good enough to be outstanding against Real Madrid

Alan Hutton used to have one game every 50 where he was decent doesn’t mean he should be playing for Real Madrid does it stupid arguement and point.

The stupidity is suggesting he isn’t a top quality player who until his injury was a first choice midfielder. He is slowly making his way back from a nasty injury and Poch as we have been told by our ITKs is nursing him back into playing regularly.

You don't rate him too highly, fine. But
I'm not following that line of discussion. Are you suggesting Winks only plays 1 good game in several? He has been consistently good and clearly works in a defined role set by his coaches. I can only recall 1 really poor game he had vs City prior to his injury lay off.

He may be no Pirlo or Keane, but hybrid midfielders in the modern game are essential in my opinion. Traditional defensive mids need to be able to pass, creative players have to graft. He has enough of each skill set at a relatively young age to improve his all round game. Overhyped? Certainly. But he's getting in the England and spurs first teams.for a reason.

It’s not even I don’t rate him I just think we are vastly over rating him and I think it’s unfair in the kid

It's ever been such with young talent. Especially from a clubs own academy and I agree, it can be detrimental to a player. But for once I can see why there is the hope he will grow and become a top CM. Long way to go though, to break into that top tier.

I think he is a confidence player, this last couple of months we have seen old Winks. Getting the ball, nice change of pace and being direct. Sometimes he goes into his shell and plays too easy for me but that comes with age and recovering from his injury. I'm unsure what he will become, he definitely has the technique, change of pace and professionalism about him to go far. I think it's down to him, Hopefully some of Dele's confidence will rub off on him, that's the biggest worry for him. To be a quality player, i'm talking a top player, you have to have the mentality and belief that you are..... that's my only question mark with him currently.

He reminds me of mark noble ( at his best) a tidy player who when on song is key. But never going to be world class

Winksy's bagged 3 England caps at 22, giving him nine years to do something so bad that those all get rescinded, then we can fairly judge him against No Cap Noble.

On a more serious note, Winks is getting games in a team levels above any that Noble's been around, ever. Can't really compare.

BTW he said he was outstanding against real madrid, not that he should be playing for them

He's a decent player, that if he ever became available, i'm pretty sure would be of interest to United, Bin Dippers and the Goons.
