We've noticed that he has started to shoot about 3 games ago, although his attempts had not been scaring the opposition until that final headed attempt. I think it is part of Poch's designed development path for him. Do the simple things well before attempting the more ambitious. During the post-match interview, Poch said that he and the coaching staff have encouraged him to get into scoring position more often.

With Dier now back and Sissoko injured, I'm guessing we're likely to see a run of games with Dier and Winks as the two CMs. It will be interesting to see how playing with a genuine DM affects Winks' game. He should have the licence now to push forward a bit more and be more aggressive with his passing considering the reduced defensive responsibilities.

if he can develop an incisive edge to his game in the final third everyone will want him. Im more than happy with his development thus far.

Can see him returning to CB when Toby goes, if he goes. I recall him saying he wanted to stay in the England team, which was as a CM/DM, which didnt go so well this world Cup, where he was a sub often. I liked him there in his first season where he was more aggressive and beastly with his play.

He was dropped for both barca games iirc so poch must see defects against passing teams, perhaps a lack of mobility?

We are a completely different team with Winks in “deep playmaker” role as opposed to Dier. It’s basically exactly why Sarri wants to play Jorginho there instead of Kante. But what winks has over Jorginho Is his work rate and tackling. Can’t deny I had my doubts but he’s come on so much this season. If he continues on this curve we could have another world class player in our midst. Struggling right now to think of another deep sitting midfielder in the PL I would swap him with right now.

He’s finally back to the level that we all got excited about last season. Apart from one mistake, I thought he was one of our best players today.

It’s weird, but the partnership of Sissoko and Winks, a partnership I never even considered at the start of the season, has become our number one and most effective CM option. Fair play to both of them, they’ve worked their arses off.

I think with Eriksen dropping deep to make a three with them it’s extremely effective, because all three work so hard the lack of a traditional ball winner isn’t over felt, while on the ball you have Winks instigating things more and more, Sissoko playing box to box and Eriksen almost as a spare man going wherever he is needed.

Sissoko is far from box to box, he plays in a square 10m box inbetween CB and RB and does zero for us offensively.

Edit - I’m not slating Sissoko, just questioning the description of him in the Newcastle game as ‘box to box’ ... Eriksen and Winks were both box to box throughout, whereas Sissoko clearly was covering for Trippier and at times playing as a RCB or a RB. It’s a shame as one of Sissoko’s best attributes is his engine / driving runs through the middle and yet we haven’t seen one of these for some time (Winks did 6 or 7 today alone).

Absolutely and hats off to Poch for finding a solution.

I do feel that Eriksen is more effective in the final third but needs must!

Sissoko’s touch map today. All between CB and RB clearly

I believe the second half against Barcelona did a lot for Winks's confidence. He's been imposing himself more ever since.

I think in this current system Eriksen is both in one, he is part of both a CM3 and am am3 if that makes sense.

That’s true but, in splitting his duties like that, we lose an element of quality, chance creation and goal threat in that final third.

It’s fine when Alli is playing but you notice it when he’s not.
