It seems to me that the British press have been assuming that would be the case based on previous events.

It is the official South Korean position, smi finals of the world cup would have sufficed otherwise olympic gold or Asian cup. The thinking behind it is that they have now done a service to their nation.

Because of Sonny’s participation in the Asian Games, the South Korean Federation, agreed that Spurs will not have to release him to play for Korea during the international break in November, and he will miss the first two group stage matches of the Asian Cup in January.

So so happy for him (and us! ). Really deserves to play out a full career as a top level footballer. There is no doubt how much he loves his country and playing football is really the best way he can serve them and raise the standing of his country around the world.

Not for the Asian Cup. That is a different comp which is only for football.

The exemption is for the Asian Games, which has a multitude of different sports in the games, much like the Olympics but only open to Asian teams. Today’s win was at the Asian Games.
