Astonished really that we renewed Vorm in the summer rather than bring in a somewhat more able backup. Seems a nice chap but just nowhere close to good enough.

Didn’t we try and bring in the Southampton goalie McCarthy?

Would have been an easy way to help out with the HG issue as well.

Honestly not buying "thigh injury" at this point. Firstly we were far more specific than normal saying he'd be out for "several weeks", and now we're saying he's hopefully back in a week when we don't normally hear anything until the team news 48 hours before a game tops.

Kane sitting next to Poch in Hugo boss PR shots. Wonder if he has been stripped. Seems bit odd club captain is in 2nd row ?

Love Hugo, best keeper I’ve ever seen in a Spurs shirt, but think we need to start looking for his successor, and have thought that for the last two seasons. Hoped that he would prove me wrong, but if anything his lapses in concentration and bad decision making have become more frequent.
Reminds me a bit of Gomes, great shot stopper but you’re always wondering when the next blunder will happen.

Too aggressive on the first goal but sweeper keeper is such an art I think with a run of games back he'll be fine. I don't understand anyone bitching at all about the final goal. Trippier had plenty of time to play that ball, and Poch clearly tells Hugo to play to an open defender first and foremost.

I said a while back he was finished I got all sorts of abuse, evidence everywhere to suggest he's well past his best. Shame, he's been amazing for us but his decision making is horrendous. Gazza has earned a run in the side.

Optimistically hoping last night was purely him trying too hard and it backfired.

Slightly more realistically, he's in the decline, especially with the ball at his feet. Absolutely terrifies me whenever we play the ball back and although our short, blind backpasses don't help (Dier/Sanchez I'm looking at you) he's awful with his decision making. Allison and Ederson are miles better. I'd wager you could easily find 10 keepers better. Something we wouldn't have said 5 years ago.

Not sure he's in decline. Look way back through this thread and you'll find posts, certainly some of mine, from seasons past moaning about his decision making and ball distribution. He's not as bad as Gomes and David James but its a similar problem imo, absolute shit hot shot stoppers but give them the ball and watch out. I do think Lloris' kicking is the worst I've seen to be honest. His kicks barely reach half way and half the time dont even stay on the pitch.
I think Poch made the right choice playing him last night. It'd be playing devils advocate to suggest otherwise after the event.
Its frustrating because its the easier part of the game he struggles with.
Too be fair a lot of players these days seem to struggle with realising when they are penned in and need to clear the ball. You simply cannot always play your way out from the back and it only takes one poor touch, a slip or one shit pass playing around at the back and you'll be picking the ball out the back of the net. Yay we got possesion back lol.

Watching Ter Stegen ping them around like he was Toby last night has finally made me realise we do require a keeper who is better with his feet especially if we want to play out from the back and put the keeper constantly under pressure.

Can all the Arsenal bots stop focusing on Captain Lloris?

F off with the ball control and kicking, how bout we spend 200 mill to buy Ronaldo and put him in goal

Right up until his clanger in WC final he was inline to get the golden glove. However the amount of mistakes are now very worrying. But it’s gonna take a massive decline for Pochettino to replace him. And in order of priorities a new keeper is nowhere near top of our list.

was saying it before the game, even though he is our number 1. Thrown in back in a game like last night was a mistake. He hasn't had game time for 2 weeks... he is bound to be rusty, that error killed our moral at the back for 15 mins, before we pick ourselves up. Gazzaniga should have started imo

Lloris cost us the game. Our captain cost us the game. Think about that for a second. A huge game against Barcelona and he does that.

The problem is, Lloris does it all the time.

The world cup final he even does it, fortunately the game was won for them. He's a fantastic shot stopper but Lloris certainly has his fair share of critics in France and in England and I understand why.

He has let us down many many times in huge games for Spurs with pathetic mistakes. It's happened so often I have co r to expect it from him. He's an awful kicker too and poor with the ball at his feet.

That said. We aren't getting better. Spurs are never spending £70 million on a keeper who can kick well and even then they will likely be inferior than Lloris in certain areas like shot stopping and running off his line.

But...I've never quite warmed to Lloris like I should have. I don't think he's as a commanding GK who is reliable enough in the big games.

I agree but the amount of mistakes he makes in big games cant be under stated. Its happened for so many seasons now that there is definitely a mental problem that needs addressing.
