With a free kick like that, you're basically saying to the kicker, that if they can get it up and down over the wall, then fair play, great goal. 'Keeper takes one side, the wall covers the other. There's nothing you can do there.

He should probably have saved the second. But I won't have the criticism for looking to spring a quick counter where we were looking to go on and win. Big Vic should have been able to play that ball on first time, and should have known Luiz was coming.

I was at the game so couldn't really see the winner from where I was sat. Truly shocking from a PL goalie in a big game.

he had virtually nothing to do all game and made three terrible mistakes the free kick he needed to be more central - the throw out was foolish - we had just got back into the game and he should have killed the game for a bit - then to be beaten on his near post was almost Gomes like

Goalkeepers make mistakes. They all do. Courtois has; De Gea has. People have forgotten about those errors. Mistakes happen in clusters, goalkeepers have bad spells. Lloris made a mistake yesterday so the spotlight is on him. Unless you see a procession of costly mistakes, it's not worth talking about. It's so typical of football, and the often stupid analysis of it, that a single game is thought to tell you everything about a team, the league and what will happen and why things have happened.

To put it another way. Let's say Wanyama didn't give the ball away, and instead threaded ball though to a Spurs player who would set up our winner instead. Let's imagine that for a few moments. Would anybody be thinking Lloris is still our dodgy goalkeeper? Yet the only difference between the two outcomes is one single passage of play. No doubt had this scenario happened, the entire game would have been analysed in a different way with Chelsea in trouble and Spurs putting to bed the Wembley problem. But do entire realities change on a single passage of play?

He's a weak link in games like yesterday's. Poor decision making & never looked like saving the 2nd goal, should have been off his line narrowing the angle to give Alonso nothing to shoot at. If there is one player who needs serious competition for his place it's him, he's too comfortable with no one really pushing him.

Lets hope playing at Wembley doesn't become an issue for him.

Seemed quite unsure of himself yesterday. Appeared to be second guessing every kick.

There has been many times i would have been happy to continue using an in form Vorm

vorm was excellent when he came in last season. a couple of outstanding saves against everton and liverpool that ultimately earned us a point in each, 7 clean sheets out of 11, good distribution. whether he could maintain that level over a season i don't know and it's probably not worth upsetting the apple cart to find out but i think fans are too dismissive of him when it comes to him vs lloris.

Because, of course, no other top keeper in the world gets beaten at their near post...ever...

The freekick; not a snowball's chance in hell that any keeper in the world would save, but Alonso's 2nd goal, he should've saved/blocked. A mistake from Hugo but we have to move on.

He made a mistake on the second. But he knew it and was clearly beating himself up over it. Hopefully he'll work on eradicating whatever instinct he has to use his hands where his feet work. And then move on. As we all should.

2:10 Awful mistake by Gomes here, I'm sure you'll agree

Another howler from Gomes, no wonder we let him go

Shocking, maybe Hugo should take some tips from Neuer or De Gea, I'm sure he'll learn a thing or two :sneaky:

Oh look. Another thread for me to hate with the white hot heat of a thousand suns. Do get a hold of yourselves, people. Lloris is a top 5 keeper in all of football. Bottom line. We are so beyond lucky he's ours.

Without knee jerking too much I do think last season was his worst in a Spurs shirt(still a good season, I still think he's a good keeper blah blah blah) and I'm wondering if it's no coincidence that it was also the season when he had least to do. Is he one of those those that needs a bit of action and if he doesn't get it silly mistakes are more likely? I think Neuer has a it of this about him.

Coming in here with your common sense and reasoned response grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

i had a friend tell me he had serious concerns with Hugo, funny how they only get voiced when he makes a mistake. Nobody ever has concerns after a clean sheet do they !

He made a mistake, he's made a few, I dont get peoples fascination with a witch hunt.

What exactly could he have done different at the free kick? If he stood more central the other side would have been wide open.
