You are right about defence but this just means Hugo will concede more of clear goals.

His big mistakes are still not good, mo matter how sloppy our defence is. Tottenham need top gk who is there to save the errors from defence!

Careful fella. You are not allowed to have negative thoughts or views about Hugo on this forum. I said as much last week and you would have thought I had used the C word in church. You get all sorts of crap about he is Poch's man and he has been a rock for us in the past blah blah blah. The facts show that by his standards he has had a very poor year. Unfortunately, like it or not his distribution, height, one footed, poor kicking, (I do not think he has ever saved a pen for Spurs and mostly gets sent the wrong way) are not as good as many other goalkeepers around. If he then fails to do some of his key qualities such as sweeping and reading the game then you have to challenge the need for a better goalkeeper. We play in the top league in the world are in the champs league. If we want to consolidate our position and move forward Poch will have to make the hard choice. There are better out there and they would come. My onions as some say.

You said this:

"He is shorter than most prem gk, he is not great at saving pens, he has a poor kick off both feet, he cannot throw the ball any great distance, he flaps at crosses, he has too many brain farts."

And got plenty of disagrees, for good reason as it's mostly nonsense. Considering you don't even know if he's ever saved a penalty for us, it isn't surprising.

In your opinion has Lloris been good this season?

I do not care about the negatives. Negative ratings do not change the facts. You seem shy in coming forward with a balanced argument backed with actual facts to support your "mostly nonsense" statement including how many pens he has saved.

Thanks for proving my point

I totally disagree with the scapegoating Lloris keeps receiving and it irritates me, but I agree with some of the scapegoaters that their opinions should be fought against with facts and coherent arguments, instead of simply trying to shame them or shut them down because their opinions are anything less than positive.

Not sure where to get the data from. Transfermarkt has Lloris saving 5 penalties in the premier league and conceding 14. De Gea has saved 3 and conceded 15. Some of those may have missed, I dunno. But then you'd have to say some of the ones De Gea has saved were misses too.

I could live with just the pens side of his performances. I would love Hugo to be the future as he was part of the revolution. But for me he cannot take us to the next level. He has many good attributes but we need the next level of goalkeeper to progress. Sad but true.

It’s probably my shocking memory but I can’t remember Lloris saving a penalty for us??

His poorest season for us without a doubt. But he has an immense amount of credit in the bank for his service. I think he deserves some time to discern whether this is just poor form or an obvious decline. Regardless, we should be exploring options for worst case scenarios.

A few years ago, Hugo was above us. This is when we had AVB and Sherwood in charge and were struggling. He was loyal to us even in Poch's 1st season where it looked like we hadn't improved. There was a season, maybe Poch's first, when he made quite a few saves late on in matches to earn us points. I think this happened in loads of matches but could be wrong.

Maybe I'm being sentimental, but I think we should show him a little loyalty and hopefully he gets through his blip, just like the team did a few years ago. We should review things after next season.

Our defence is nowhere is solid as it has been for the previous 2 seasons which doesn't help him either. Sanchez was all over the place yesterday. Our full backs could also do better.

the problem with this is there arent a lot of "facts" in either argument. goal keeper stats are pretty bogus in general but Lloris is tied 3rd in clean sheets, 4th in goals conceded among regular starters and 2nd in sweeper clearances.

So who are these amazing goalkeepers queuing up to join us then?

never heard of him till I looked at stats but Nick Pope at Burnley appears to be having quite a season. Im not suggesting we should make a move for him to replace Lloris

This is true, he was awesome. But recently he has very little to do, and doesn't seem to be making the best decisions anymore. Perhaps the two are correlated.

Glad to have him between the sticks, but the last few weeks he's been shocking with his decision making. But going into the semi final against man ure, he'd be my choice regardless of his current form
