Obviously we want to get behind the guy, I think he's always had a couple of mistakes in him but this is the first time there's really been what some could consider too many. I think it's fair to say, like our other prime players such as Eriksen and Kane, you shouldn't just drop them when we know what they can be and when they're out of form. I think with anyone though, you also have to acknowledge that poor form can only continue for so long before action may be taken. It is harder for keepers because they can't really hide anywhere, when they make mistakes they often lead directly to goals.

We will be sticking with him I'm sure, though I think people have to acknowledge that there has to be some improvement too. I want us to stick with him, but at the same time, with the way he's going he's becoming a bit of a problem. It will do him and us the world of good to have 3 or so games on the bounce without any incident.

A very fair and grounded post. Of course I can acknowledge his errors this season, something I'm sure Lloris is well aware of also.

But as you IMO rightly say...let's stick with him a while and give him a chance to have a few incident free games.

I'm sure he will regain his earlier form...maybe he too just needs a bit of support.

I certainly expect us to stick with him but his errors are a concern, think he's going through a bad patch at the moment and will play his way out of it eventually.

Yeah indeed. It's a bit more pressure on him now, but I think it's really important that he just has a few solid games in a row now. The good thing is that goalkeeping is very much a confidence thing, he hasn't become crap or lost ability overnight, just needs a bit of consistency.

I think maybe he might need to seek out a specialist in sports psychology. Way more than for outfield players, IMO, goalies can be severely impacted by mental blocks. I'm unsure why, but I fear it might be a confidence issue.

Goalies are always a couple of errors away from being shit and one worldie save away from being a hero. He’s definitely earned a right to play on through his current form. A worldie tomorrow night and all will be ok again I’m sure.

Until he lets one in through his legs again Utd.

There aren’t too many better goalies around when he’s on form. He just needs to find his form again.

There is no harm in admitting that hugo has made an uncharicteristic amount of errors this year. It's ridicolous however to suggest to replace him, for many reasons.

Firstly he has it in him to return to his high standards (which I back him to do). Secondly who are we gonna replace him with? Their just isnt any standout kepper to replace him. Thirdly you cant treat your captain, most senior and model player with that amount of disrespect, without losing the respect of the entire squad and any player that may join the club.

I agree with this, although hypothetically speaking it would be interesting to see how many poor games and decisions it took before fans consider the idea he should be dropped.

Not that I’m suggesting we’ve reached that stage now.

It would have to be a lot, lot more before I think he should be replaced by Vorm.

We're already there mate, some are already suggesting this.
How many games before the majority want him dropped is another question i suppose.
But as we've seen with Poch, he gives players a chance to play themselves into form.

I think what's being forgotten is that Hugo's recent errors haven't really cost us a single point imo, i think if they had then more would want him dropped.
Its a very scrutinised position, your either a hero or a villain.

Where did you get these stats from they seem iffy?

I can think of two Karius mistakes which led to goals in recent weeks and one for Courtois for example.

Costly errors put Hugo Lloris under the spotlight

https://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/...put-hugo-lloris-under-the-spotlight-ntxxz5lms

There has been a good deal of worrying about Hugo Lloris of late, here and in France, even if his Tottenham Hotspur manager yesterday described him as one of the best goalkeepers in the world. Horrible mistakes and indecision against Manchester City on Saturday were on the back of costly clangers in other recent games and it has been an indifferent season for the Spurs captain.

Lloris is either going through a rough patch or starting to show signs of decline.....

....Lloris has made five mistakes that have led directly to league goals this season, and the statisticians did not attribute either mistake as down to him in the 3-1 defeat by City. He made just two costly errors last season and three in the campaign before. Tottenham have also conceded 30 league goals this season, more than than they did in the whole of the 2016-17 campaign.

When he recklessly charged out of his goal and scythed down Raheem Sterling on Saturday, Lloris showed his tendency to panic in one-on-one situations. It was a similar picture a week earlier when he raced off his line to clear a through ball and hammered it straight at Mame Biram Diouf, who equalised for Stoke City.

Another of his weaknesses was highlighted a fortnight ago when he flapped at a cross and Álvaro Morata nodded Chelsea into the lead. Lloris redeemed himself with stops, and Tottenham won 3-1, but it was not the only time that he has struggled with crosses. He is relatively short for a goalkeeper, at 6ft 2in, and this counts against him with high crosses. There are 12 other goalkeepers in the top flight who are more successful at claiming high balls.........

Did you see Lloris's starting position for City's first goal? He was on the edge of our box. Why did he backpedal?

I said the same in the ratings thread. It’s like what he did with Salah when he was 1v1.

Against Jesus he’s out, then back peddles, then steps out a couple of paces again.

I questioned whether it’s some kind of new technique, designed to confuse the opponent, if it is, he’s not doing it right.

I have wondered the very same thing. He is doing it on a regular basis.

I’d be very surprised if it was a deliberate tactical ploy. More likely ( and more worryingly ) his judgement is becoming suspect and as a result he’s second guessing himself.

Whatever it is it's rubbish and he needs to start committing and rushing out. That used to be one of his strongest points as a keeper, he used to rush out and close down the angle so quick so that attackers didn't have much time to think about what they were going to do, what has happened to that Lloris?

Dunno about Gazzanigas great game. He had some good saves, but clocked a Palace player in the head after about a minute when trying to punch a cross which should have been a penalty, and was nailed to the line Friedel style when Zaha rounded him and missed an open goal.

Two pretty big mistakes. Maybe a bit down to rust, but I'd say his game was only good, or maybe even just decent in the context of him being a 3rd choice keeper being thrown into it somewhat.

That would be quite an achievement by Zaha.

Nothing wrong with his starting position; he was exactly where he should be. The ball lands a good 18 yards outside of the penalty area, so of course he had to backtrack. No keeper is going to rush that far out of his box - from a standing start - to challenge a forward who is already sprinting forward and within touching distance of the ball when it lands.
