Questioning his future at the club is ridiculous, life isn’t black and whites people make mistakes, good people are still capable of doing stupid and even bad things. He’s not the first, he won’t be the last. Ledley King, Jonathan Woodgate, Van der Vaart, Luka Modric, all guilty of criminal offences in the past decade.

Questioning if he should remain as captain, from a purely PR viewpoint, I get. Questioning whether he should continue at the club is borderline hypocritical unless you yourself to have had the exact same attitude for the other players listed.

Obviously he’s been a complete prat but I won’t throw him under the bus until we know the facts.

1 pint can sometimes put you over the limit depending on the person and beer.

Are you sure you're in the right place?

Sorry there’s absolutely no way he can carry on being club captain. And if you disagree with this you really have no idea about the implications of drink driving. This isn’t a silly little mistake.

Whilst I agree with the message, you don’t know all the facts and he could have just slightly been over which loads of people are every day.

Really really disappointing, and the last player I’d have expected to be in this situation.

I agree with stripping him of the captaincy, even temporarily. He’s brought the club in to disrepute and that can’t go unchecked if we’re to uphold our image of a club with high standards.

Sorry, but I have no time for people who drink drive. I don't care if they are our club captain or anyone else. Take the Captain's armband away from him and give it to Harry Kane. Kane is the kind of inspiration we need for youngsters following the club, not people who can fall asleep and the wheel and kill someone.

Neg rep all you want.

Let's wait for the facts before rushing to judge. He could have been off his box after 12 pints of wifebeater or had a glass of Chateau Lafite-Rothschild 1982 with his dinner and washed his mouth out with Listerine afterwards.

I'm no expert about how long it takes alcohol to leave your system, but logically it's probably safe to say that unless he had his only drink after midnight, he had more than one drink.

Yeah I’m probably being naive, just giving him the benefit of the doubt.

After Kane, the least likely in the squad you would have thought to put himself in this situation.

Yes it's probably a natural build up of Beaujolais
and Chateauneuf du Pap over many many years.
Hasn't had a drink for weeks.

Silly boy.

Fucking hell, can always rely on people to completely fucking over react on here.

Perhaps we should be waiting for some more details, especially regarding how far he was over the legal limit, before we say he should have the captaincy stripped or that he should be stood down from the team. There's a big difference between having one too many glasses of red and miscalculating and being 15 pints deep and driving home after a night spent clubbing.

Think you’re going a bit OTT before we know the facts. People can fall asleep at the wheel without any alcohol at all.

Not really. Both massively increase the risk of you seriously injuring or killing either yourself or other people.

Only difference being someone 15 pints deep probably wouldn’t be dim enough or have the capability to chance it IMO.

He'll get his punishment under the law, just like any other person. I don't see why the club should punish him further.

Which begs the question, why did Salah get off Scott free?

Merseyside police must be massive Liverpool fans.

In Thailand I saw their take on anti drink drive campaigns - one of the tallest buildings in Bangkok and the top twenty or so floor had a huge Johnnie Walker ad on that had the slogan, "DON'T DRIVE! DRINK!"

But, yeah, Hugo you knobber.

The facts are that he was in Central London at 2:30am. That not only suggests he was stopped just as he'd left an establishment and started heading home, but somehow I doubt he would have popped out from his house in Finchley at about 1:00am and gone all the way into town just for a swift half. :hungover:
