I hadn't realised that he is on £100k p/w - he did not do so bad out of his contract extension.

Said it before, but he's had an absolute filthy season. The best ball playing centre back in Europe along with Bonucci. He plays all sorts of passes, and never makes mistakes when playing them, with the latter point being the most important thing.

A lot is said about Toby but Jan might be the more difficult player to replace. He's 30 now we really need to strike while the iron is hot in terms of winning the league these next 2 or 3 years.
Once he declines he's gonna be so hard to replace. A defender who can defend at a very high level but also carry the ball out with the impact he does are so so rare. City just spent £50m on Stones for his on the ball quality that is basically the same as Jan and the guy can't defend at all.

If Jan was 22 he'd be worth £60-£70m, the type of player he is we may never see again here.

I was never a fan of Vertonghen in previous seasons but the guy has been fantastic this year. I can't really think of a bad game he has had. Even my Dad said he was great this year and he is a hard man to please!

For me the best signing the club has made in recent times has been Toby Alderweireld. Not just for his quality but the difference he has made to Jan's game has been incredible. Hope we can get Toby tied down to a new deal soon, he would be completely irreplaceable.

Conversely, Toby doesn't look anywhere near as good when he's not playing next to Vertonghen.

A fair point, well made! We're lucky to have both of them and I hope Dier realises how lucky he is to be playing with both and I hope he takes every opportunity in training to learn from Jan, Toby and also Poch!

Well he isn't as our defensive improvements have come with Alderweireld and the adoption of a defensive midfielder who sits in front of the defence. Plus his tantrum at playing left back when we needed him to was particularly impressive.
