I assume this is reasonably normal because he’s our player and there’s no rush but still a little unsure why he hasn’t been offered a brand new contract after his performances over the last few years. Surely all this is doing is delaying things just by a year?

He'll be 32 by the end of the year and has been struggling with injuries throughout the season. Why would we give him a three year deal?

Because it’s highly unlikely he’ll get any worse in the next 3 or 4 years. He’s never relied on pace and reads the game better than most. When he’s out it’s very noticeable and he’s basically Mr Reliable. Unless he’s made it clear he won’t sign a new deal then I think we’re risking it a little. No immediate danger though but still surprising (for me) that it wasn’t a longer deal.
