I see potential no doubt, but if we're being honest the best chances seemed to land at his feet and he simply didn't take them. Wouldn't expect to see him start for the rest of the season now we're out of the cup.

He's not composed once he is in the box & that's just not in this game.. every game he's played he's been ok up until he is in the box.. I think the talent is obvious he just needs to drop down a level or two to gain the confidence he needs. he's only 18 he has loads of time to improve
That seems to be the main criticism for the youth watchers too. An unusual attacking midfield type, because he's not composed in the final third but is too small to play deeper at the minute. This all whilst being excellent at moving the ball between midfield and forward.

Onomah is composed in the final third, but he isn't a striker, with a strikers instinct, he's an 18yo midfielder/ attacking midfielder (who eventually would be great in a Pogba type role in a CM3 I think) even Kane couldn't hit a barn door on his first few first team games and I'm sure it was the same for Alli when he was 18 and playing his first few games (only he had the luxury of playing them in League 1 with less pressure and much smaller audiences), these kids need game time to build confidence. And none of Onomah's chances were gimmies either, they were all half chances. Kane and Alli both missed similar chances today too.

He's got time on his side and looks a good prospect but the header that Cabaye handled off the line should have been at least on target.

I think he needs a loan move next year to play consistent 1st team football. I really like him, but don't think the sporadic game time is good enough for his development. Especially when he may have even more competition next year from Njie and Pritchard.

Overall I see his future at CM in the Dembele role, but he simply needs the time to physically develop to play it.

Aside from the 2 missed sitters that occurred I thought he played pretty well.

You can tell he has great balance, a very good touch and that he has a footballing brain. Over the piece yesterday, he took care of the ball well and moved it on fairly sharply, often with a first time pass that found its intended target.

He's also very clever with where his first two touches go if he's under pressure. Example being when he got the ball near the half way line and took a slight touch inside towards a player that was closing him down, easily drawing the foul.

Amazing what some people see. Then again, I remember arguing the same bollocks with people about Kane when he made his first EL appearances.

I always think Onomah is older than he actually is.

At 18 he's got lots of time on his side, but I wonder if he could do with a loan next season.

He seems to be quite neat and tidy but obviously a fair amount to work on still. Not sure he has the cutting edge at the moment, and I agree with those who say he may well be better if he drops back into midfield.

No reason for people to abuse Kirito for having an opinion different to yours. Onomah didn't have a good game, missed a header from 3/4 yards and another sitter.

Do you think he should be removed from the squad immediately?

it wasn't just an opinion though, it was downright abuse of an 18 year old kid making his 3rd ever start at this level.

He shows for the ball a lot.

I like that about him. He didn't have a great game yesterday, but he was looking to be involved in the play up until the 93rd minute. We've had too many midfielders in recent times who tend to disappear when times are tough.

What are you talking about, some people were voting Alli MOTM for having an almost identical game as Onomah. Both saw the same amount of ball in similar areas, both helped set up situations with nice touches in the attacking third, both missed half chances, Onomah actually won the ball more than (double than the next nearest) anyone else in our team. 18yo having his second start, against a very physical, competitive, full strength EPL team and you're saying he didn't have a good game ?

No-one is saying he set the world ablaze, it was just a good solid 90 minutes from a kid learning the ropes who contributed as much as anyone else out there in a testing environment.

Onomah is only 18. To put a bit of perspective on that, he's only now legal to buy fireworks, vote, buy ciggies or get a tat.

I remember I wrote off Kane after the Hearts game, missed the pen, played with zero confidence. I'm enjoying him telling me every game now that I'm a fucking idiot.

Give the lad some time to develop.

Whilst I wasn't overly impressed with his performance, I really like these comments from him, taken from the official site:

Josh said:
“It’s mixed emotions – I did a few things right and a few things wrong but it’s all a learning curve for me at this age"

“In the first few minutes there was a header that came to me, but looking back on it I think I could have headed it down or maybe waited for it to drop and volleyed it.

“It came to me quickly at that moment and it was a poor miss from me but I’ve got to learn from that and make sure I take the chance better next time.

Think it doesn't help him starting out in the wide positions, although I can understand why Poch plays him there as less responsibility than in the middle. Physically he can handle himself so think a loan would be good for him next season so he can try and play some regular football. Pritchard is ahead of him imo and should take his spot on the bench next season.
