Reading through the Villa forum, they had been slating him the past few weeks until yesterday.

Doesn't help that hes only being brought on at the end of games, and not being played in CM.

Sounds familiar aye. But look what happens with 90mins in one of his 2 best positions.

First few games he started they called him a class above too bit weren't winning.

Unsurprisingly when a players gets ad hoc minutes out of position they won't look good or be able to prove themselves.

We are already linked with Barkley and Andre Gomez for January where exactly is Onomah going to play?? He may turn out to be a decent premier league player but I have not seen a performance in a Spurs shirt that makes me think this guy can win a place. He reminds me of Carroll
Are you ITK?

Poch does not send the players he wants out on loan..

False. Pochettino himself has said he likes to give young players to try to force their way in, if that doesn't work he wants them to go away and demonstrate their capabilities before returning and having another crack at the first team

Ok let me revise my thinking he will not be a CM or Wide player for us if he reinvent himself in another position then I guess anything his possible.

When I watch Onomah I think he has the physicque and the touch but seems to lack the aggression and believe to be better than he is. I don’t think I am being harsh when I say he has not showed me anything in any performance for the Spurs first team which made me think he deserves a spot even on the bench. I saw performances from Bentaleb, Mason and even Carroll and they were deemed not good enough so in my view Onomah has a lot to do...

the problem is that what you've seen of him in a spurs shirt is an 18/19 year old playing ad hoc minutes out of position, you think that's a fair basis in which to judge him on?

i'm sure you have little inclination to do so but watch any of these performances and tell me there's not a quality player in there -

vs south korea
vs colchester
vs venzuela
vs bristol city
vs scotland

Said it before he’d make a fantastic CB.Basically doing what Sanchez is doing now.He has the physicality, very cool on the ball. And can pick a pass.Rather than let him go would be interesting to experiment a bit.

Don’t see why it’s such a ridiculous notion. Most see his best position as a deep lying CM which effectively is a DM.Most DM can play CB as they need to sense danger.Look at some of his tackles in the clip above. He has good pace and size. The fact is he is now miles behind winks .We also seem to be playing much more fluid systems using eriksen and dele as CM as well. And it’s pretty clear we are in the market for another CM.Its very hard to see how he gets a look in at CM.And with us playing 3 CB we could do with a bit more cover.Hes a very talented player.id rather adapt him than lose him.Sure many would have laughed 5 years ago if I told you Rose would be Top 3 LB in World football. All part of being a good manger like me spotting potential in other positions lol.

He’s tall and black, that is literally all he has in common with Sanchez. Weirdest post I’ve seen on here for a while.

If anything his overall defensive work is his biggest hole in the game based on what I've seen at Villa, and may very well be why Poch never really trusted him in CM. He can tackle for sure, but overall his defensive game is lacking. Thing is now we are experimenting three man midfield I reckon he would be useful in that system.

"miles behind Winks" is a bit strong, lets assess him when he comes back.

Put this in the loanwatch thread, but might as well put it here to since some folks don't check that thread.

Nice highlights but i'm sure 30 seconds in Josh thinks the Fulham defender wants to high five him (then quickly withdraws when he realizes that's not the case  )

Was going to say the same. Winks is an easier player to integrate and trust to an extent. Now people are starting to say, he needs to do more with the ball and not just pass it off, which I agree with, but I will also say that he is still settling and finding is feet in this team. If he shows his u21 self he will be more dynamic and he has a lot to do to become top class. I think Winks will become a very good PL but he still has a lot to do. At the moment, while he looked to have one stagnant year, his development has progressed well as he is being challenged and he is looking the biz. However, I still believe Onomah is the more talented player and has higher potential. His style, and what he does with the ball is a lot more dangerous and effective and is more of a creator than Winks.

However, and while I think Poch needs to trust him more, as you can only develop with experience, Onomah needs to show Poch that he should be trusted more, and work on his tracking runners and other awareness issues. But in terms of ability Onomah is for me still above Winks, but there will become a point no doubt, that his development will really be stunted, which it has somewhat and the talent and potential will drop. But it can be undone. Winks is benefiting from his style of play and apparent work-rate and maturity.

Either way I still believe both can become regular CMs for us, and I would love to see their academy partnership translate to the first team. They both have the ability to become top PL players and if they perform how they did in their partnership you will see a quality and dominant Onomah in tandem with a clever, composed Winks.

When I said miles behind winks I didn’t necessarily mean in terms of ability more profile.Onomah is a sub in the championship.Winks is now a full England international, trusted to play at the bernabeu and most likely off to the World Cup.If Onomah comes back he will have a lot of catching up to do.Where as before start season they were more or less on a par, well winks slightly ahead.
