He's never going to learn if he isn't played regularly in the position though is he? With some time and patience there I think he will come good. I honestly don't see what Poch has to lose in League Cup games for example.
Don't disagree but he plays against top competition in training. I'd imagine if he looked comfortable there he would be given more of a shot. I'm sure thats how Winks got his opportunity, Kane, KWP, etc. If you prove yourself in training you'll get your shot.

I'd be strangely happy with going into the season with Winks and Josh as our CM to partner wanyama.
Be great to dominate with an academy product in a vital role instead of splashing 70 mill

Why was it different for Kane when he finally took off?
Article recently written

Ben Pearce for ESPN has confirmed that Josh Onomah is being kept on at Spurs.
“Josh is part of our plans. He’s injured and doing his recovery with Harry Winks. That’s why he’s not here.”
Oh were that entirely true.
Josh Onomah is part of Tottenham’s plans alright – solely because the the club are completely lacking in confidence that they will manage to secure any decent additions in this window.
I do hope all the die hard Dumb Dumbs are looking forward to having that bravery explained to you in slow motion over the forthcoming season.
The bravery was player retention.
Showing you Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen & Co., all smiling away in their new little ‘elite shirts’ is the where your expectations ought to be.
Onomah was throughly nondescript at Villa.
He received a warm welcome and then he just sort of fizzled out.
Their fans won’t miss him.
This is the truth – but of course, thick fans will rail against this – with some mumbo jumbo about ‘yeah but that was just because the Villa fans wanted one their own players to start instead.’
Bottom line with Onomah is that he’s not good enough to make a Premier League starting bench and will be hung onto as he’s English, and his departure wouldn’t solve anything anyway.
Who would buy him, and for just how little?

Yup, so would I.

That's why it's a shame both are injured and aren't even on the US tour......

What a terrible article.

Not what Ben Pearce wrote at all.

This is what he wrote:

Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that Vincent Janssen has been omitted from Tottenham's International Champions Cup squad because he is surplus to requirements, but says Josh Onomah remains part of his plans.

Janssen and Onomah both spent last season out on loan, with Fenerbahce and Aston Villa respectively, and neither player was included in the group that has traveled to the U.S. for Spurs' preseason tour.

But Pochettino says that Onomah's absence is due to a knee injury.

"It's different personal situations for different players," he said. "It's clear the situation for players like Vincent. But Josh is part of our plans. He's injured and doing his recovery with Harry Winks. That's why he's not here."

Onomah's injury means he will miss the chance to impress during Tottenham's ICC matches against Roma, Barcelona and AC Milan, with senior central midfielders Mousa Dembele, Eric Dier and Winks all missing.

Dembele and Dier are on holiday after reaching the World Cup semifinals with Belgium and England, while Winks is facing a race to be fit for the start of the season as he continues his rehabilitation from an ankle problem.

"He [Winks] is doing well after his injury," said Pochettino. "We're waiting for the evolution and we hope he can join the group as soon as possible. At the moment he's out of the group. We need to assess him every day."

Centre-back Juan Foyth also misses out on the tour with a knee injury after initially being named in Tottenham's 25-man ICC squad.

Again, not necessarily. If you are actually placing the player in training situations most similar to game conditions (expt design) then the info gleaned will be more reliable.

Now idea what you're talking about here other than an attempted jab at my beloved Heels. I will let is slide as I see you are from W-S and we don't beef-down from the Hill.:D

Just a little fun jab. Went to State back in the day. Regarding Josh, Poch was quoted something regarding players getting paid to train and playing time was the reward for how you train. My take is that Poch sees him in training more than we will ever see him in total so, I think I will trust his judgement as to when / if he can play CM. I hope he does come good but I have not seen the work ethic off the ball that is required. Maybe that will change as he matures.

Yeah me too, also Poch has come out and challenged the other youngster in squad to make a mark and that list includes TOB and Skipp, so they could also be nice options.

If we're gonna have the academy and invest in it we should be using it otherwise we just look like Chelsea.

Who are you calling thick? your using the argument that Onomah wasn't great on loan... well Harry kane wasn't either you didn't counter my point at all just went off on a rant because someone disagreed with you.... this by the way is not a sign of intelligence. Quite the opposite. I actually didn't even say I was a fan of Onomah I just wouldn't write him off because of a loan spell at a club that played pretty negative football in the championship where he never played in his preferred position. If we used your logic Kane would be playing elsewhere now.

No journalist is going to write this... you want to attract readers to your posts, articles blogs etc not alienate them by calling them thick...

Wasn’t “pretty obvious” to me. The way you structured your post made it unclear who was writing what.

For fucks sake.. It's not my article.. It was off another site written by someone else, probably not a journalist, but who really cares..
