I like what I saw of Josh in the world cup and am sure given time he'll perform as well for us.
IMHO it's up to him to do what Poch has asked of him. I don't know what that is but it would seem that he wasn't doing it enough to convince Poch to play him. Hence the loan, as asked for by Josh apparently, but it wouldn't appear to be the correct loan for him.
Seems he's staying there so who knows what is really happening with him.

I hope he can convince Poch to use him during the summer pre-season friendlies, wouldn't like to lose him as his ceiling seems high from the little I've seen of him.

Still love the kid but I was convinced he’d be a superstar for us but not so sure now. Still hold hope for him getting a decent crack we’ll see next season I guess. Mind you, id play him over Sissoko all day every day.

I think there is a great player there, just needs playing and support which I hope he gets with us. Was he subbed today? Commentary said Grealish came on for him, but BBC web page shows not subbed?

In his preferred position, battered by a league 1 side, maybe Pochettino isn’t quite as clueless as some seem to think

Yeah I’m sure it’s all his fault, the other 10 players obviously put in world class performances and they only lost cos of Onomah

It's long ball football
He's in the wrong position
It's Steve Bruce
It's the other 10 players
It’s comments on the internet

I absolutely believe he could be top level, I absolutely believe he is better than every Posh and Villa player so he should at least be standing out and he isn’t. It is very strange.

You do realise what you are saying is the same shit people said when Kane went on loan

We need to get him back ASAP then, I hate saying anything bad about our youth I just want him to perform and show everyone what he is capable of rather than blame a load of other people.

So....does anyone know if he was subbed?

I do and I realise that makes me a prick who should know better. At the same time I don't think it can always be down to other people if our loaned out players don't perform.

I’ve watched Onomah about 5 times this season and each time I've felt he could give and do more off the ball, I don’t think he imposes his obvious ability on the game enough.

Nope. Played the whole game. Seems to be Villa's scapegoat at the mo. Going to make him or break him.
Thanks for the reply. Was wondering if people were posting on this when not even following the game. I rate josh highly and really think he is worth Spurs putting the time in. Villa love him....hate him.... love him etc With the right tutoring he could be a real asset.

Onomah 20.5 now he probably has 18 months to prove himself. Churchill probably summed him up best.

It is a riddle, wrappedin a mystery, inside an enigma;

This gives me hope that the first team players are relaying this to the next crop. I think what Jenas said doesn't hold for Onomah though, I would expect Aston Villa to have pretty decent facilities.

My main frustration was that this loan should have been happening last year which I think is Poch's big mistake with Onomah, CCV and now KWP and Edwards.

3 of those 4 comments are very relevant and aren't going to change on a game by game basis. If someone doesn't suih a team's style 8 games out of 10 they're going to look bad, especially if they are also playing out of position.
Soldado scored over 25 goals per season for 3 consecutive seasons for Valencia. When we were going to sign him I was excited, yet some fans said he wouldn't work here as we don't suit his style. He then went on to completely flop for us. Was that because he was working hard enough? is was shit? Did he suddenly turn into a bad player once he joined us? no we didn't suit his style which meant that he didn't score and his confidence went, resulting in him even missing basics.

Paulinho was voted one of top 3 players at Confederations Cup. He game to us, and anyone with us could see he was essentially garbage, and now he is playing regularly at Barcelona. So who is the real Paulinho, maybe his skills require playing in a specfic system that we don't play. He was regualry scapegoated for poor performances. It is the same for Onomah at Villa, the difference being that one he is out of position and comes from a team that play football, and two it is the only measure we have for Onomah getting regular first team games. So now those who will only use adult football as a measure can go ahead and also say he is terrible.

We had Soldado and Paulinho for 2 years and not show anything. Before you say it's the Championship and he should be standing out. Let's go to the easy one. Kane had played for our first team in his favourite position at 18/19. He had loads of league experience under his belt, and was couldn't get selected for Leicester. Maybe it isn't the players fault, that he is struggling to adapt to this type of football. He might be trying to make the best of it, but I'm not expecting much from this loan tbh. Apparently he had PL teams after him, I wish we had accepted one of those rather than waiting until late to send him out

Finally no one has claimed that Josh's is saying the comments on here are the reason he is where he is. I believe they said he gets annoyed at reading people criticising Winks and him, when they are young and trying to do the best for their club

I cant agree Onomah is miles ahead of Winks, we have no quantifiable evidence of this...on one hand you have Winks putting in quality performances against Real Madrid and Josh playing in the Championship with mixed results. Now thats not to say Josh cant be the better player or has a higher ceiling but lets not pit one Spurs lad off against another or get ahead of ourselves.

Depends what you mean by quantifiable evidence. The only time they have ever played on an even playing field Onomah has looked the better player. How can you then measure when one is then played in their favourite position while the other isn't. If you asked me is Onomah a better winger than Winks is a CM the answer is a resounding no, but that isn't why people are frustrated. Re the pitting against each other. I don't think anyone is, those who sound frustrated are probably because they see what Winks is doing for the first team and are thinking 'imagine if Onomah also got his chance too, what could he do'. Nothing is ever guaranteed though. Also you need to remember the ones probably the most frustrated are also the ones who have been calling for Winks to play first team football for the last 2/3 years

Onomah is class! Simple as!

We need to be bold enough to play him in his preferred position (CM). Like we were bold in spending 30m on Sissoko, and playing him there. I know who is the better player to me. Winks is a Stevie Perryman type player in some ways, SP was one of my favourites. Perryman functioned brilliantly because of the more creative players around him.

Before Josh signed up for us, I can assure you chavs, citeh, yanited, Dortmund for starters were extremely keen, courting him. Pep rates him as one of the best youngsters in our game. How do i know that? One of my footballing connections.

Say what anyone wants to knock him as not showing it at non-football educated teams like Villa is off their heads. I played at a very decent level, and trained with pro-clubs back in the day. I remember helping a friend out under a bogus name, without my club finding out. I would play give and go balls, run into positions, or channels, and they were lost, I would play a cross field ball for the player to run into. I would then anticipate him getting there, receive. I would tell the striker to drop off, and the No.10 (wasn’t called that then) to run, and I would then fill in for him. My vision was brilliant, and executed.

What happened next, the receiving player was in a totally different wave length. Ofcourse I started getting bollocked by all and sundry, including the manager. Surprisingly a retired pro was passing by, standing next to the manager, and gave him a mouthful, telling him he needs to learn the game, and he saw what I was doing, and the players were not coached right. After that (in that game) I just stood there doing the very simple thing.

After the game that ex pro came over to me, asking my age (20) invited me down to train for a week at a certain pro club. The manager said had I been 2 years younger he would sign me up.

Didn’t mean to go this way, but hopefully my message has come across.
