Just watched the Bayern game to see the rinsing that Foyth got, the guy got past him twice. Foyth was MOTM in a recent game for Argentina, and he was excellent against Sterling when we played City. I'll take Poch's opinion on his ability to play right back ahead of those who panic when a player gets beaten by a quality opponent in a friendly.

By that token Toby should be benched, he has looked slow and he is struggling to defend at corner kicks. He might be here for another season but I suspect he will play fewer games than Sanchez, who represents the future at right centre back.

The Express (so probably bullshit) today has us in for Hysaj, Napoli’s RB.

“Mauricio Pochettino looks set to be forced into the transfer market for another defender after Juan Foyth suffered an ankle injury against Bayern Munich last week.

And he is ready to compete with Roma and Juventus for Hysaj who was a target for London rivals, Chelsea, last summer.

Pochettino is aware that he is going to be short at right-back after selling England international Kieran Trippier to Atletico Madrid.

Napoli want around £20million for Hysaj who joined them four years ago from Empoli while he can also provide cover at left-back if needed.”

If we weren't going to buy a right back before we aren't going to change our mind after an injury - never seen that happen. The press make this shit up.
What sort of well run club splashes £20 mill it didn't intend to just to cover an injury when players in the squad can do it. What do you do with the purchased player after the injured one has recovered?

Out for “many weeks” according to Poch. Feel sorry for him after he missed his honeymoon to come back early. I know he was missing first two games anyway but sounds like it will be long term

Well, we're finally going to see Serge & KWP get their run of games we've all been asking for...

Looking on the bright side, he’d have a longer honeymoon now. Cruise around the world, maybe?

Feel sorry for Foyth, he was so dedicated and has so much talent. Hopefully he won't be out for too long. However, the whole right back situation is one that baffles me a little. One of the narratives earlier in the window was 'we need new full-backs, especially a right-back' and 'after midfield the full-backs are the priority'. And yet we have seen our primary right-back leave, and are now left with a potentially decent player who was injured most of last season and still is now, and Walker-Peters who looks like he has ability going forward and might work well as a wing-back, but looks worryingly suspect defensively, thus far at least, and also didn't seem to be trusted last season when he could have been. Perhaps the players just aren't there to upgrade us at the moment for reasonable fees, and perhaps Foyth was being thought of as an ideal stand-in for a season to cover us there and to aid his own development. But his injury now is a real concern for me and leaves us way too short there. Fingers crossed Serge can really stay fit and turn it on, and Foyth can come back soon and offer decent cover.

A longer honeymoon might see him coming back over-sexed and couldn't even stand properly like Georgie Best did when he was still in bed with a bird at 11 a.m. when a game starts at 3 p.m.

After undergoing assessment over the past few days, we can confirm that Juan Foyth has sustained a lateral ligament injury to his left ankle following a challenge in our Audi Cup match against Bayern Munich.
The Argentina international, who will miss the opening two games of the season due to suspension, will now undergo a period of rehabilitation and is expected to return to training in September.

I think we've got away with one there. That's actually not bad at all.

That's not disastrous, tbh. Could have been a lot worse - hopefully back after the international break.

Fantastic news. Even better when it means we won't buy fucking Hysaj.

That could have been so much worse, I thought it was an achilles rupture.
