He's looked great in a 3-5-2 for Spurs & England. But this is tournament football and lest we forget the teams we have beaten thus far; Tunisia, Panama, Colombia, Sweden

BUT, you still need to produce moments, and a free-kick in the first five minutes of a World Cup semi-final is something special!

If we just focus on getting a WC CM and go with:

Lloris
Tripper Dier Sanchez Vertonghen Rose
WORLD CLASS CM Winks
Eriksen Alli
Kane

Perhaps that is our best shot?

We already have back-up cbs in CCV & Foyth, and Aurier at RB. Shame for Son.... that is unless we do what Southgate has done here (against some teams) and lose one CM and put some more defensive responsibility on either Alli or Eriksen?

In a roundabout way - well done Trippier! Kudos!

Fat bastard here in bar in front of me in Gran Canaria telling his mates that Yanited have already signed Trips. Mind you he also said Ronaldo is coming back to Old Trafford this summer. They're hanging on his every word.

Haven't the heart to tell him yesterday's Ronaldo news haha.

Wonderful free kick.

Wonder if he was struggling for a long time as thought he was awful after half time

Well we have another goal threat on free kicks now. The kid's a great asset for us.

Tempting to sell Serge and keep our RBs as Trips and KWP.

No real pace or dribbling there too predictable.

Any word on how bad his groin injury is? It looked a fair bit worse than simple cramp. Wouldn't be surprised to see him miss the start of the season after the way he had to be carried off.

Too early to tell as they will need the swelling to go down before they can scan him. What ever happens it would have been a struggle to make the start of the season and I expect we would have started Aurier or KWP.

Look forward to welcoming the lads back though certainly did us proud.

The Walker substitution baffled me. Trippier was struggling at the end of the 90 and Walker seemed fresh. Surely you take Trippier off for Vardy and move Walker to right back?

Walker is better at RB in a back four than Trippier anyway - but I guess Southgate thought Trippier had more chance of creating something.

He was probably thinking about penalties, rightly or wrongly.

Trippier, weakest link in the croatia game, apart frm the goal, he constantly gave the ball away and doesnt track back in the 2nd half, def positioning was real suspect.

KWP pls
Trippier kept Perisic quiet for 70 minutes. It was very clear in the latter end of the game that Trippier picked up an injury.

Calling him our weak link just isn't true.

Our weak link was the midfield. Henderson was excellent but once Croatia's midfield began crowding him, there was very little he could do. I have no idea why an extra midfielder wasn't put on to support Henderson. It's what cost us the game imo.

Saying that, I can totally see why Perisic is so highly rated now. The guy is an absolute mule who didn't stop running for 120 minutes. Made more impressive by the fact that Croatia's two previous games went to extra time, too. The quality of his passing, crossing, set pieces etc was excellent too.

Despite his age, I'd definitely take him.

He must love Poch. Obviously the player has to do the work but without MP I doubt he’d be getting the praise he has been this tournament.

This is probably controversial and I am expecting disagreement, but if some team was willing to overpay for Tripper on the back of a great WC (say roundabouts 30mil) I would strongly consider it if I were Levy. I like Trips and I think he is better at the current moment than Aurier--though I am not giving up on Aurier yet--but I still think he has his limitations, especially against top teams and pacy wingers unless he has some solid protection behind him in a back 3. In terms of a complete RB/RWB, I am most excited about KWP and really hope he has the time to blossom this year. Not wishing Trips gets sold by any means, but would not be upset if he goes for a good chunk.
