Nobody said they were great defenders, the poster said "much better defensively" than Trippier. Walker is for sure, Aurier meh. Otherwise just think how this sounds, Trippier cannot be better both offensively and defensively than Walker, otherwise the worlds greatest coach would have bought Trippier. That's a pretty simple fact.

People, and "even the worlds greatest coach" will look for different attributes that fit what they want from a team perspective.

Are you saying there are no right backs in world football that are better both defensively and offensively than Walker? I mean you must be because otherwise and in your words surely the simple fact is the worlds greatest coach would have gone for them instead.

Fair enough my friend. I have never been a fan, even from his Burnley days. I like my wing backs to have pace, along with brain. He is a very intelligent player, but average (to below) defensively. I don’t think anyone can argue that. I am from the old school; a defender defends, and anything else is an added bonus.

Fair enough. I just don't see diving in in the box or playing stupid passes in dangerous areas as anything other than reckless stupidity and Walker and Aurier are both very much in this camp. We could certainly upgrade on Trippier, I would not argue with that, but I'd rather lose a game because one of our defenders was beaten by an opponent than to lose it through errors that even schoolboys shouldn't make. If we are to lose one of them this Summer for me it has to be Aurier. Not that I believe either will go, but you already know my insight on that.;)

Depends, maybe TWGC wanted a right back from the PL, in that case he got the right player.

He got the player that fit the criteria he was looking for yes, doesn't mean he's the best, just the best fit. You want your full backs to be quick and explosive in the final third. I want mine to not have the footballing equivalent brain capacity of Joey Essex when in and around our own box.

You’re doing a BC mate.

What having a different opinion to you? There are many, many things I disagree with BC about, this just isn't one of them. You might be able to overlook the mistakes they make I can't. I had exactly the same opinion on Rose up until last season. He was reckless, constantly diving in, going off his feet when he didn't need to. For me that made him a poor defender. He sorted that out to a large degree though whereas Walker and Aurier are still making the same silly mistakes they always have. Obviously in Walkers case that isn't highlighted as much at City because they are rarely under threat in the same way he was when with us, but the errors are still very much in his game, as we saw against Liverpool the other week.

No, I just meant over-egging the pudding to make a point. I’m not arsed if you agree with me or not.

Well I was just trying to explain why I though one was better than the other, rather than saying Pep wanted one of them therefore it was "a simple fact" he was better.

Anyhow, we clearly don't agree so we will leave it there.

Sorry fella, I didn’t want to go over old ground from earlier in the day.

Never going to agree with you that Trippier is better than Walker.

That’s a bit depressing. I thought Trippier was for sale at the right price this summer ?

Personally I don’t think either Trippier or Aurier are good enough, I’d sell both and get in a quality RB - fast, strong defender, good in the air, good passer, good crosser - to rotate with KWP.

Playing stupid passes in dangerous areas? Reckless stupidity? Did you watch the matches against City and United? Trippier pretty much defined the above in both of those matches. He was awful.

He's limited athleticly and it costs him in matches against clubs with elite athletes. It's as clear as day. I'm fine with him being a rotational option playing against mid or lower table teams but he shouldn't be starting against elite opponents. He's a liability in those matches and he always will be.

Aurier hasn't looked great either this season. Tons of mental errors. But the one thing that he has that Tripper doesn't is room to improve. Trippier has maxed out his potential. He is what he is at this point. Aurier is a freak athlete that just has to clean up those mental mistakes. It's not like we haven't had the same problems in the past with both Rose and Walker. Poch worked wonders with both of them. Given time he will with Aurier too.

Agree on Trippier but just not seeing the athleticism in Aurier, he doesn’t have Walker’s pace or strength.

Better get use to Tripps being around a little longer :sour:

As I have found out, every day is a long day at our club. I have gone on record not being a Trippier fan, but will always back him once he is in our shirt.

But SA has let me down MASSIVELY-another thread for that

I see something in Aurier but you may be right. The one thing I'm sure we both agree on is Trippier shouldn't be starting important matches next year. He's part of the problem. We need to replace one or both of Trippier and Aurier if Aurier doesn't come good.

I’m glad Trippier is away at the World Cup this summer as it will give KWP a real run of games in preseason to prove himself.
