always nice having a proper right back in the position rather than making do with makeshift centre halves chucked out there.

Dier as a specialised CB will almost be like a new signing.

Those stats are impressive. Might not be the biggest name but would be an upgrade on what we have. Ship walker out asap.

I've not really kept my eye on him when watching Burnley but the stats speak for themselves. He's exactly the sort of fullback the poch system requires -particularly if we're continuing with inverted wingers. Rose is productive going forward, but for all his physical attributes Walker is disappointing as an attacking entity. The fullbacks provide the width in our system so therefore they need to be productive attackers, particularly against packed defenses. This could prove a very shrewd move and is most definitely a round peg in a round hole.

Also young and cheap, so suits Levy.

Only party who's left out is Baldini. No schmoozing required.

Baldini would be the one who, through his schmoozing, discovered that he has a £3.5m buy-out clause.

He's also probably gone and watched him play in the flesh, unlike his 'technical scouting' geek squad (Mitchell and co).

Just a thought - perhaps Trippier being used in a deal for Ings?

It's Bournemouth, not Burnley, who will get most of the money from the tribunal. So perhaps it's a fiddle like Davies and Vorm? Say pay £6.5m for Trippier and £0.5m for Ings, instead of £3.5m for Trippier and compensation for Ings.

I thought that Man City get 40% of Trippier's transfer fee no?

It's hard to explain but I'm so thrilled at this. Ticks all the boxes.

Agreed. Can't decide if I'm more pleased with the player we're interested in or the fact we're actually identifying prudent targets. As of now honestly, I think it's mostly the latter after the last three summers.

We've recruited Mitchell and a team of 4-5 scouts/analysts to work alongside him. I'm hoping that we can start going back to what we did well as a club in the transfer market a few years ago, recruit 'under the radar players' who do well, develop them and sell them on for profit.

Trippier was never on my or anyone else's radar as a signing, but watching the clips and reports on him, he certainly looks like a solid full-back with plenty to offer going forward and relatively inexpensive.

Is that a dig at Mitchell ? And how do you know he hasn't been to see him play ?

The fact he's already been asked to do the job Poch would ask of him, and the fact he's part of what was the fittest team in the prem (statistically I think) shows he's got all the attributes. Especially for such a cheap price. Could be a very shrewd signing indeed.

Of course also opens up funds for forwards who of course have a premium attached.

Trippier is quality, well pleased. Assuming Yedlin will be loaned out or pushed to right wing perhaps...

I think so, absolutely. Quick, hard worker, well balanced in attack and defense, very athletic, and fantastic passer/crosser of the ball. If we're indeed looking to sell Fredericks with interest for a player with a contract winding down, I'm frankly stunned at us looking at this deal. We just don't make clever purchases like this. What a start to the summer IMO that we're even interested.

I like the potential of taking advantage of the instability/mess at Liverpool. If it's true they too were interested in Trippier and Ings, this is a good opportunity to push.

Well now, that is a vote of confidence. Do you think he would genuinely push for Walkers spot? The fullback positions are so important to Poch's system.

Paint me completelyunfuckingsurprised that this news means that Yedlin is taking another step towards becoming the Yankee version of Bongani Khumalo. What a pointless signing [Yedlin, not Trippier].

The guy is young - give him a chance. If we do sign Trippier then it would be good for Yedlin to go out on loan to a half decent club where he could learn about the English game properly and hopefully develop.

Young with Premiership experience, great crosser and hard working? Yes please.

Another gap filled with a young, english prospect who would come very cheap and allows us (potentially) to spend bigger on other targets (MS, winger)

If he's as good as people think then it's a good signing.

If Dier is to play centre back more then we'll need a proper right back as competition or backup for Walker. I'd hate to see us throw Yedlin in too early. A few bad performances and the fans perception becomes negative very quickly.

Maybe a short loan to the Championship could be good for him.
