He's a good little player and great to have in the squad.

However, I have no idea why many were happy to go into the season with him as number 1 and untested youngster to back him up.

Even Poch didn't fancy him much last season.

Thank god we sold Walker. We'd have won the FA Cup if he wasn't dropped for the semi-final too. I'm converting to some fucking religion and praying every hour on the hour that we sign Aurier. Play Trippier RM if anything. All he can do is cross, we need more from a right back.

Don't understand why KWP was dropped for him. The performance against Toon was better than anything the full-back version of David Bentley has offered since he's been with us.

Fucked if I care whether I'm knee jerking or not.

You're not knee jerking. You're bang on.

I voiced my concerns about Trippier last weekend but lets not pretend Walker wasn't prone to an absolute balls up. He only really improved that side of his game when Poch got hold of him.

If he was out of position he had the pace to recover.

But that's besides the point.

We broke up the PL best defence without replacing an integral part.

It's a fucking balls up.

At fault for the goal but not alone in that.

Dembele fails to win header in midfield.
Whole back line (Vertonghen/Toby/Trippier) caught on heels and don't press the dropping ball, allowing Barnes to lay it back to Brady.
Brady had a ton of space to pick the pass because rather than press our defence is running away, Ben Davies is doing nothing here.
Trippier loses his man and Dier is up the pitch because he is the only one who tried to press the ball (maybe he should have gone backwards like the rest of our defenders and tracked Wood, but to me he looked the only one doing what we usually do, (trying to press the ball).
Toby misses tackle
Hugo Doesn't save.

Maybe Trippier is most culpable but it was woeful collectively.

Well Hugo had no chance with that goal tbf... I dont disagree with much of that, but the point is that Trippier was CONSTANTLY out of position for the entire last 20 minutes or so- i was watching in disbelief at how easily they were getting down their left flank. Realy worrying that it wasnt addressed by Poch in fact

Agree, I think Pochettino has probably learnt a few harsh lessons from that about what Trippier can and cannot do but in his defence he is coming back from an injury, we have to hope he can do better than that.

I think I'm just upset that the whole performance was nothing like what we usually do, not as much pressing and so much dropping off. Pochettino has spoilt us to such an extent that if a ball drops in midfield I expect our players to be first on the scene and challenge hard to win it.

Didn't see that today.

We are in the process of buying a replacement. And tbf Trippier played alot at the back end of last season without making many errors - actually earning an england call up in the process. So let's not overact here, he's a decent player.

But that's the point isn't it. The replacement should have been here before we sold our best right we've had. Trippier did an good job filling in last season granted, but he didn't play his way into the team. Walker was dropped with one foot out of the door. Poch showed very little confidence with Trips prior to that.

Neither Trips or Davies are good enough to be starting for a top 4 team. Imo.

I suspect we waited later on in the window to buy a replacement as Poch was comfortable with Trippier and of course we always have to wait until the big boys have finished shopping to find out what quality players are still available.

I don't agree with on Davies. He is a solid back up left back. Not as good as Rose going forward but at least on a par with him defensively.

So if Rose was to leave you'd be happy with Davies as first choice LB/LWB?

I'd be ok with it yes but that's not what you said. You said he isn't good enough to be starting. He played every match last season from the end of Jan. We won almost every game.

Actually felt a bit sorry for Tripps today, he got into some decent positions to receive the ball in the attacking half, but was often overlooked.

Think criticism on him today is a little harsh, the whole team were poor BUT I have to admit his weaknesses are being exposed.
Against the CL teams last year he looked a complete level or 2 below and was being beaten so easily.

As people say his delivery is good but he's not athletic enough for the way we play in a back 4, may be ok in back 5.

We need aurier or someone else ASAP

Ok. My bad, I wasn't being clear. I'm talking about being first choice.

Davies and Trippier are good squad players but simply aren't good enough to be first choice FB/WB's.

Davies has done an adequate job in filling in for large parts last season but he's an obvious weak link. I certainly wouldn't be happy with him being given the number 3 shirt.

Which imo doesn't mean he's a solid back up LWB for a PL title challenger, which is what we want to be. I'd forego the signing of a creative am/forward for a WB rotation of Aurier/KWP and Rose/Sessegnon, because we have enough going forward if we have attacking WBs. I'd love to have a creative AM, but if it were a choice, I'd get our wing backs sorted first.

Ironically - as people like B-C would bang on about how dumb Walker was - Trippier isn't looking the smartest cookie defensively. Definitely a good option for matches against weaker teams, which is where he racked up all his assists the stattos point to, but he's no Walker.
